The EHS Manager is responsible for implementing and maintaining effective Environmental, Health, Safety, Security, and Sustainability (EHSS&S) programs across the facility. This role ensures compliance with corporate policies and regulatory requirements while fostering a proactive, safety-first culture. A significant portion of time will be spent on the plant floor, engaging with employees and driving continuous improvement.

Primary Responsibilities

Safety Management

  • Implement and maintain the corporate safety management system.
  • Assess training needs; coordinate and maintain the site safety training plan.
  • Lead investigations of incidents and near misses; implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure appropriate PPE is specified, available, and used.
  • Audit processes and procedures to ensure safe work practices.
  • Support Process Safety Management (PSM) and identify compliance gaps.
  • Maintain emergency response teams and procedures (First Aid, Firefighting, Spill Response, Safety Committee).
  • Communicate EHSS&S goals, metrics, and progress; maintain injury/illness database.
  • Promote a safety-conscious culture and provide follow-up on safety concerns.
  • Review capital and process changes for EHS design considerations.
  • Collaborate with global EHSS&S teams on program implementation.

Environmental Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with environmental permits and regulations.
  • Manage hazardous and special waste handling, storage, and reporting.
  • Support sustainability goals and provide required data.
  • Conduct training on environmental topics (e.g., stormwater, SPCC, air permits).
  • Maintain organized records and ensure timely permit updates.
  • Customize corporate environmental programs to local needs.
  • Identify and implement required permit revisions proactively.
  • Inspect facility housekeeping and recommend improvements.

Industrial Hygiene

  • Assess chemical and physical hazard exposures (e.g., noise, heat).
  • Conduct sampling and exposure monitoring using IH equipment.
  • Advise on hazard control measures and improvements.
  • Support process hazard reviews and product change assessments.
  • Coordinate non-routine exposure monitoring when needed.

Additional Duties

  • Support Management of Change (MOC) processes.
  • Conduct process hazard assessments and operability reviews.
  • Maintain relationships with local emergency services.
  • Contribute to facility safety budget planning and capital project reviews.
  • Support security and sustainability initiatives as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Safety, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years in EHSS&S roles within chemical processing environments.
  • Experience with environmental remediation systems (e.g., Pump & Treat, ISCO, SVE, UV Treatment) and agencies (EPA, DHEC).
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DHS, RMP, PSM, Responsible Care.
  • Proven project management and training facilitation skills.
  • Experience conducting accident investigations and hazard assessments.
  • Familiarity with safety systems (e.g., VPP, OHSAS 18001, IIPP).
  • Strong communication, analytical, and leadership skills.
  • Awareness of U.S. security regulations.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% for audits and cross-site support.

Work Environment

  • Frequent walking, standing, and stair climbing in a chemical manufacturing setting.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Significant time spent on the plant floor and outdoor property.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location.

The salary for this role is $94,000 - $120,000.
