FTE: 1.0fte, Shift: Days, Schedule: 4 10-hour shifts with equitable weekends per the CBA contract

Position Summary

The Emergency Department Unit Secretary is responsible for facilitating communication and ensuring the smooth operation of the emergency department. This position involves administrative support, patient interaction, and collaboration with medical staff to enhance patient care and departmental efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist patients, families, and visitors in a professional and compassionate manner.

  • Answer and direct phone calls; relay messages to appropriate personnel.

  • Maintain and update patient records in the hospital's electronic medical record (EMR) system.

  • Schedule appointments, tests, and procedures as directed.

  • Coordinate communication between ED staff, other hospital departments, and external providers.

  • Prepare and distribute reports, forms, and other documentation as needed.

  • Monitor inventory and order office supplies for the department.

  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or medical office training preferred.

  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting, especially in emergency services, is highly desirable.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and hospital EMR systems.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.

  • Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.

Pay and Benefit Expectations

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $21.29 - $29.69 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant's years of experience align.
