DESCRIPTION

The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Newborn Medicine, is seeking a pediatric hospitalist to provide patient care on the Newborn Service at UC San Diego Health Jacobs Medical Center.

Clinicians should be board certified pediatricians with a minimum of two (2) years' experience in general pediatrics. Graduating Pediatric Residents are encouraged to apply.

Jacobs Medical Center is a 364-bed general medical and surgical facility on the UC San Diego Health campus in La Jolla. UC San Diego Health is the only academic health system in the San Diego region, providing leading-edge care in patient care, biomedical research, education, and community service at sites in La Jolla and Hillcrest. U.S. News and World Report's annual "America's Best Hospitals" report has repeatedly ranked UC San Diego Health as the #1 health system in San Diego and Jacobs Medical Center as a High Performing Hospital in Maternity Care.

Patient care on the Newborn Service at Jacobs Medical Center is provided by a team of UC San Diego faculty pediatricians, pediatric hospitalists, pediatric nurse practitioners and UC San Diego School of Medicine trainees. At this same location there is also a 52-bed level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) which is staffed by UC San Diego faculty neonatologists, pediatric hospitalists, and neonatal nurse practitioners. Patients on the Newborn Service that require higher level of care are transferred to the NICU.We are looking for clinicians to provide direct patient care in the Newborn Service as well as supervise the care provided by nurse practitioners, residents, and medical students. Additional expectations include trainee education, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, contributing to quality improvement projects, and participation in division/section correspondence and meetings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Board certified with a minimum of 2 years' experience in general pediatrics.

  • Prior experience caring for newborns during birth hospitalization, stabilizing sick infants, and neonatal resuscitation.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges which includes having a current California Medical License without probation or restrictions.

  • Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call, and locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs. This position requires working 2 weekends days per month and several holidays per year.
