We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead, work alongside and develop a team of highly skilled Mechanical Engineers responsible for both design, development and project execution of proprietary, high-speed rotating machinery and machinery support systems at our Rotoflow headquarters in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. This role involves approximately 75% mechanical design execution and 25% leadership of a team of 9+ engineers. Travel requirements are minimal.

Rotoflow is a full-service turbomachinery OEM - providing a wide-range of new equipment solutions and aftermarket services to our customers globally. For over 75 years, Rotoflow has designed and manufactured both standard and custom-engineered cryogenic and warm gas centrifugal turbomachinery used in market segments such as industrial gases, petrochemicals, and hydrocarbons. Products include compressor loaded turbo-expanders, generator-loaded power recovery expanders, and low-cost dissipative expanders. We offer new equipment designs, rerates, upgrades and repair along with field services, engineering evaluations, reliability, troubleshooting, training, remote diagnostics/data monitoring, shop services, and new equipment replacements for all types of centrifugal and reciprocating equipment. Our customers are served globally through regional service centers supported by both regional and centralized execution teams.

Key Job Responsibilities-Design & Technical Execution (75% of time):
  • Execute mechanical design tasks for awarded projects.
  • Perform detailed stress analysis, FEA, modal analysis, and rotordynamic analysis using both standard and proprietary tools.
  • Support bid estimates, select equipment components and materials, and check and approve drawings.
  • Collaborate with various subject areas to finalize equipment designs.
  • Work with customers to integrate equipment into processes.
  • Conduct safety and operability design reviews.
  • Test, troubleshoot, and perform root cause analysis (RCA) of equipment.
  • Support field commissioning and start-up activities.
  • Improve efficiency of designed equipment and work processes.
  • Drive cost reductions and competitiveness across execution and product offerings.
  • Work on new product development.
  • Develop, standardize, and evaluate new design tools for implementation.
Key Job Responsibilities-Team Leadership & Management (25% of time):
  • Lead a team of 9+ engineers responsible for design, integration, operation, performance, and on-time/on-budget delivery of custom equipment.
  • Provide technical mentorship, guidance, and leadership.
  • Set standards for execution and create metrics for performance and delivery.
  • Motivate, lead, encourage, and inspire the team.
  • Provide mentorship, feedback, performance evaluations, training plans, and set objectives for your team.
  • Identify investments to improve capabilities and provide a vision for long-term growth and direction.
  • Challenge norms with alternate solutions rooted in engineering fundamentals.
  • Champion a culture of safety and inclusion by upholding Rotoflow's commitment to zero-incident operations and fostering a diverse, respectful workplace-where safety is a condition of employment and every team member is empowered to thrive.

Minimum Hiring Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or a related technical field. Advanced degrees with a focus on turbomachinery design, rotordynamics, fluid film bearings, design for manufacturability, and/or manufacturing processes are a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum 10+ years in turbomachinery or rotating machinery design.
  • 5+ years of experience leading mechanical engineers in a design role is a plus.

Technical Proficiency:

  • Familiarity with 2D CAD and 3D modeling and simulation tools.
  • Advanced capabilities in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and rotordynamic analysis are a plus.
  • Experience with bearing technologies including fluid film, gas, magnetic, hydrostatic, and rolling element bearings are a plus.
  • Exposure to equipment start-up and plant integration is a plus.
  • Experience in turbine testing, data acquisition, and evaluation is a plus.
  • Programming skills in VB, C#, C++, Python, Matlab, Fortran, or similar languages are a plus.
Working Conditions:
  • Full-time, on-site (5 days per week) role at Bethlehem, PA headquarters which has offices, manufacturing floor, and testing lab on site.
  • Minimal travel required: less than 10%, domestic, typically to trade shows and conferences.
