DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, performs and coordinates general front office duties, to include but not limited to clinic and procedure appointment scheduling, authorization, billing verification, completion and coding of billing document, insurance eligibility and verification, triaging phone calls and performs other duty as assigned.

Maintains confidentiality. Work cooperatively and communicate effectively with team members and other departments to ensure accuracy and efficiency of scheduling and coordination. May perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of three (3) years of administrative experience.

  • Computer skills and data entry experience, especially with charge entry and scheduling. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to determine importance of calls and proper area of referral.

  • Experience scheduling appointments with the ability to exercise judgment and make decisions with regard to patient needs.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, preferably pulmonary medicine.

  • Proven knowledge and familiarity with various insurance types and the authorization process.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate in a professional manner, both in person and by telephone when dealing with diverse groups of people.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Four (4) year college degree in a related field.
  • Three to five (3 - 5) years of administrative experience.
  • Experience with insurance verification.
  • Experience with referral authorization/scheduling.
  • Experience with CPT codes and billing compliance practices
  • Relevant experience in a large complex healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of UCSD Medical Center systems (EPIC, Webpaging).
  • Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $57,399 - $71,347 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $27.49 - $34.17

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
