SUMMARY

Working under the supervision of a Certified Industrial Hygiene professional, the Technician - HSE will provide industrial hygiene technician support to the company's Plaquemine, LA facility and limited support at facilities located in Geismar, LA and in Aberdeen, MS. As a member of the company's industrial hygiene team, this individual will help apply professional knowledge and experience to recognize and evaluate potential hazards and help implement comprehensive safety and health programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Demonstrates strong safety culture through personal behavior and commitment to environmental, health and safety.
  • Demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility and reliability by consistently arriving on time and prepared to perform assigned duties. This role may occasionally require early arrival or extended hours to meet business needs and ensure operational continuity.
  • Participates in the PACE culture of safety.
  • Maintains, calibrates, and repairs all Plaquemine facility air monitoring instrumentation and IH equipment.
  • Maintains the instrument management database and ensures that all site direct reading air monitoring equipment and industrial hygiene instrumentation are in proper working condition and have up-to-date calibration records
  • Performs set-up and calibration of air monitoring and industrial hygiene instrumentation
  • Diagnoses instrument errors/malfunctions and replaces or repairs faulty instrument components
  • Tracks the manufacturer warranty status of instruments and parts
  • Performs personal and area sampling of dusts, gases, vapors, and other materials for analysis
  • Performs personal noise dosimetry and area sound pressure level surveys.
  • Participates in compiling, verifying and correlating data relating to occupational and environmental health issues.
  • Assists others in the preparation of studies, reports and other tasks as specifically assigned.
  • Enters sampling data into the Westlake industrial hygiene data management system (Cority)
  • Generates routine exposure monitoring reports and distributes to employees and management for review.
  • Keeps abreast of technical and legislative developments and requirements relating to field of specialization.
  • Teams with other safety and health disciplines and management to ensure proper work planning and implement activated for hazard evaluation and control.
  • Works with HSE staff to ensure a high performance, customer service-oriented work environment which supports site and corporate objectives and service expectations.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree in a scientific or technical field related to the position and 2 years of applicable experience; or High School diploma with 5 years of applicable experience.
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred
  • Readiness to travel 10% annually; TSA Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC); Ability to obtain air monitoring service technician certification; Ability to carry sampling equipment, climb structures and work at height, and work outdoors in all weather conditions; Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Suite

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and climb; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and infrequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must frequently make minor decisions requiring limited judgement, general decisions in the absence of specific directions, and perform activities requiring sustained concentration.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is sometimes moderate when working in an office, however, some of the work may be required in the operating units which mandates usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs. Travel may be required occasionally (up to 10% annually).
