Role of the Waste Zero Coordinator

Under limited supervision, responsible for the coordination and administration of waste diversion programs and community-wide services and events involving education, communication of community-wide services, and audits of recyclable materials from residential, industrial and/or commercial customers.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Completes simple waste audits for customers and contributes to diversion strategies to outline customer's areas for opportunity. May help to implement service changes and follow-up items to ensure diversion programs are successful.

  • Creates and maintains a file system for customer information, ensures data entry into systems, and produces audit reports.
  • Contributes to digital design products, Social Media, and its implementation.
  • Assists in leading outreach activities directed by the Waste Zero Team including but not limited to, preparing speeches, giving presentations and trainings, facilitating and completing door hangings, and co-leading MRF tours.
  • Under the direction of the Waste Zero Team, coordinates programs and community events.
  • Collaborates on ideas on how to educate customers and the general public about Recology's resource recovery services and programs.
  • May deliver public education programs to fulfill contract requirements and/or sustainability goals.
  • Leads the setup and break down of materials related to events and activities.
  • Coordinates to ensure all materials and event collateral is ready prior to each activity.
  • Oversees the staff outreach booth and represents Recology at community events to promote recycling, composting and waste reduction.
  • Supports the Waste Zero Team on a variety of community outreach projects.
  • Tracks and records outreach contacts and activities.
  • Ability to have a flexible work schedule based on business needs.
  • Travels frequently to various offsite meetings.
  • Driving a company vehicle will be required from time to time.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

  • 1+ years of related administrative and events coordination experience or Bachelor's degree and 6 months' work experience.
  • Computer programs, including Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
