As Manager, Regulatory and Emerging Issues (REI), you will provide direction, guidance and tools to PPG technical, business, and regional product stewardship operations teams related to regulatory compliance and emerging issues for the US and Canada region. You will have an impact upon the development, sale, distribution, use and disposal of all PPG products globally and shall serve as an expert in PPG's regulatory compliance processes and systems. Specific areas of focus include TSCA compliance including PMN and LVE submissions, defining and implementing raw material chemical inventory status indicators in our central Global Product Stewardship (GPS) System, managing product stewardship operations processes and tracking emerging regulatory issues in North America.

You will report to Global Manager, Regulatory & Emerging Issues and lead a team of product stewardship specialists to support the REI accountability and compliance in the US & Canada region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage US TSCA compliance processes for Imports, Exports, new chemical substances and annual data call-ins (TSCA CDR and PFAS). Responsible for oversight of filing new chemical notifications to the EPA (i.e. PMN, LVE, NOC) and submission of TSCA CDR reports for all PPG sites in the United States.

  • Direct the business units in the planning and implementation of procedures to comply with conditions of use for regulated chemicals in the US (SNUR implementation and risk management rules). Negotiate data requirements and use conditions with EPA representatives for new substance notifications.

  • Support the development for logic to record global chemical inventory information in GPS to drive the GPS reporting tools used by the business units and regional operations teams to verify global inventory compliance of products in all regions.

  • Provide direction to the GPS Raw Material team regarding global chemical inventory compliance issues encountered in the raw material introduction process.

  • Maintain relationships with technical and legal consultants as well as agency representatives involved with chemical and product regulations. Identify, select, and manage contracts for a variety of consultants who provide regulatory support to the new chemical registration processes in the U.S. and Canada.

  • Manage all emerging issues for US and CA, as part of the global Emerging Issues process. Awareness of issues through participation in trade groups, conferences, seminars and monitoring publications.

  • Work closely with EHS IT to develop, test and promote tools that aid the businesses in maintaining compliance to global regulations. Maintain department databases to support emerging issues program and product stewardship management system.

  • Train associates at all levels on domestic and international chemical control regulations and compliance.

  • Participating in the risk assessment compliance team to evaluate, record and communicate risk assessments for substances of interest (SOI).

  • Ensure team alignment to the global product stewardship organization's strategy; Team development and knowledge sharing to promote individual goals and talent retention.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in science or related discipline.

  • 12+ years of experience in the EHS/Product Stewardship field.

  • Broad understanding of chemical regulatory compliance and the ability to be recognized, internally and externally, for regulatory compliance expertise, especially related to chemical inventory compliance.

  • The ability to influence leaders and communicate complex technical information across a variety of audiences

  • Prior experience in a global organization, including cross-functional collaboration in a multi-cultural environment.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience and the ability to implement create and efficient solutions.

  • Some travel may be involved, up to 10%.
