Job Summary

The Start-Up Technician III is responsible for performing start-up, testing, and functionality checks on newly installed HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems and equipment. This role ensures all systems operate according to design specifications and project requirements. The technician completes and submits all necessary documentation and communicates effectively with internal managers, clients, vendors, and other stakeholders. Working under limited supervision, the Start-Up Technician III exercises sound judgment and technical expertise, with the authority to adjust procedures as needed based on field conditions. Additionally, this role provides training and mentorship to less experienced technicians, supporting their development and ensuring high standards of quality and performance.


Essential Duties

  • Responsible for meticulously conducting start-up and functionality checks on newly installed HVAC, plumbing, and electrical components, equipment, and systems.
  • Completes all required documentation and routes it to the appropriate manager/supervisor.
  • Collaborates with a wide range of stakeholders including customers, clients, internal managers, and vendors.
  • Works under limited supervision, makes decisions based on expertise, knowledge, and coordination with internal management.
  • Follows fairly well defined procedures, but has the authority to deviate from them if the technical situation warrants.
  • Trains and provides guidance to Start-Up Technicians with less experience to improve their skill set.

Minimum Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required. Vocational training, apprenticeships, or equivalent experience in a related field is preferred, with craft training highly valued.

Mandatory requirement: EPA Certification.
VFD, VRF, OSHA 10, CPR/First Aid, and Factory Authorized certifications are preferred.
Maintaining ongoing required registrations, professional licenses, and/or certifications as required by the position is necessary.

7+ years of experience.

Must be able to read and interpret blue prints, schematics and wiring diagrams.
Strong interpersonal and people skills with good written and oral communications capability.
Knowledge of current NEC, Plumbing, Fire and Building codes is preferred.
Performs as a self-managed individual.

Coaching and mentoring skills

Ability to understand budget activity per job.

Excellent presentation skills.
