Position: Systems Software Engineer - National Security Space Launch Location: Cape Canaveral, Fl Status: Full Time Clearance: Secret (active or ability to obtain) Astrion's Launch & Safety Business Unit is seeking a motivated and mission-driven Systems Software Engineer to join our team supporting the U.S. Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC) Assured Access to Space - National Security Space Launch (NSSL) program. This program provides cradle-to-grave support for assured, reliable, and secure launch of national security payloads-ensuring the United States maintains critical access to space. In this role, you'll work at the intersection of systems engineering, software design, mission integration, and launch operations, contributing directly to the certification and execution of next-generation launch vehicles. You'll collaborate with Space Force, NASA, and industry partners to ensure flight readiness, mission assurance, and successful day-of-launch execution.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze and review software designs, test plans, processes, and system requirements. Support verification and validation of launch, payload, and mission requirements. Evaluate launch vehicle systems across guidance, navigation, control, avionics, power distribution, signal processing, instrumentation, and ground support equipment. Assess and troubleshoot launch vehicle test tools and subsystems, including propulsion, fluids, ordnance, environmental control, and contamination control systems. Develop and deliver technical products for flight worthiness reviews and certification. Participate in design reviews, mission readiness reviews, launch rehearsals, and day-of-launch operations. Provide clear and timely communication with DoD, LSP, and mission stakeholders; deliver regular technical status reports. Track, maintain, and communicate mission technical progress and schedules.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline. 12+ years of experience in systems/software engineering, technical leadership, or related fields. Hands-on experience with software design, build, test, integration, and anomaly resolution. Strong background in launch vehicle systems, avionics, software, and electrical engineering. Knowledge of launch vehicle processes, launch site preparation flows, and day-of-launch operations. Familiarity with National Security Space Launch (NSSL) interface and processing requirements. Experience collaborating with Space Force, NASA, or other U.S. Government partners. Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint. Active DoD Secret clearance.
