Overview

The primary function of the Analyst is to conduct comprehensive studies, analyses, and operational guidelines in support of Steam Operations' goals of providing reliable and environmentally sound service at a reasonable cost. The person performing this role will independently manage the Steam Operations outage schedule, forecast operation and associated costs using GE MAPS, conduct the Economic Ranking, complete monthly and annual reports, and represent the section at meetings with inside and outside stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to both internal and external customers by fostering a proactive, customer-focused culture that builds trust, enhances value, and strengthens stakeholder confidence.
  • Manages the preparation of the outage schedules (spring and fall) for Company (regulated) Steam and Electric Generating Units. Must coordinate changes to the schedules among the Energy Control Center, the Generating Stations, and Steam Transmission and Distribution, and NYISO. Must ensure adequate steam reserve at all times.
  • Perform Modeling and Simulation studies for fuel hedging, budgets, rate cases, cash flow management, New Source Review(NSR) and resource plans (GE MAPS modeling).
  • Perform financial analyses and generate monthly and annual reports using FUELS, technical applications, and upload portals for NERC and the NYISO, as required.
  • Conduct economic ranking of steam units.
  • Track and optimize ramp rates, DMNC, and other operational parameters.
  • Support Steam Operations in investigations for sources of Steam Variance.
  • Perform studies, including scope of work, data gathering/trending, computer modeling, and analyses. Presents results up to the Vice President level.
  • Assists with preparation of reports and testimony for regulatory proceedings.
  • Interface with Generating Stations, the Energy Control Center, and Steam Transmission and Distribution on a regular basis to identify their needs and to resolve issues related to improving operations and performance. Conduct analyses of root cause, operational investigations, and load flow studies with regard to abnormal occurrences and contingencies of the steam system for senior management.
  • Provide emergency response duty during a steam or corporate emergency. This may requires being available for CERC, a field post, or a steam generating station outside of the normal work schedule.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or other equivalent field of study and 2 years of relevant work experience.
Relevant Work Experience
  • 2 years of operations, planning, or engineering experience in a technical and analytical capacity - Required
  • Knowledge of basic financial concepts - Required
  • Ability to cross-reference reports, identify discrepancies, and independently resolve inconsistencies - Required
  • Exhibit strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with various internal departments and external agencies in a professional manner - Required
  • Proficient in computer applications MS Word, Excel, Power Point - Required
  • Strong technical and analytical skills - Required
  • Basic knowledge of power plant equipment and operation - Preferred
  • Basic knowledge of the PI system - Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required

  • Sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for the duration of the workday
  • Stand to use/operate office equipment for the duration of the workday
  • Ability to read small print and symbols
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
