GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Director, Media Relations, the Senior Public Relations Specialist is responsible for promoting the Health System by identifying and researching positive Health System news, and initiating and receiving coverage in the print and electronic media.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develops and implements communication plans for specialty services, including strategies to increase understanding and preference through media relations, internal communications, external communications, etc. Works closely with medical and operational leadership to determine communication needs and address customer priorities.

2. Establishes strong relationships/rapport with key reporters/producers and works closely with them to meet promotional needs of System.

3. Establishes strong relationships/rapport with targeted physicians and other healthcare personnel to identify strong news stories and segments.

4. Provides counsel and executes strategies to manage difficult media/public relations' issues pro-actively.

5. Implements media strategies through development of news releases, media alerts, press conferences, web chats and other effective communications.

6. Develops, writes, edits and/or contributes to key System publications, other newsletters, annual reports, brochures and other print pieces.

7. Perform other responsibilities or assignments as required, including serving on-call.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:



  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in Journalism, Public
    Relations, Communications or a related field.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in journalism, public relations or a similar field.
  • Health care experience a plus preferred.
  • Must be guided by a compelling "client/customer" orientation.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Works extremely well with colleagues and customers.
  • Computer skills: word processing and desktop publishing.
