As the Associate Director of Business Portfolio Management you will play a pivotal role in driving strategic decision-making and optimizing the research and development (R&D) investment portfolio. In this position you will be responsible for overseeing the evaluation, prioritization, and alignment of projects and programs across the organization's research pipeline to ensure they support long-term business goals and scientific innovation. Working closely with cross-functional teams you will be providing insights and recommendations that guide resource allocation, risk management, and portfolio performance. You will be required to have a strong analytical mindset, deep understanding of the research lifecycle, and the ability to translate complex data into actionable strategies. The salary range is $113,718 - $190,388. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience. This position is fully remote with the expectation that the hired candidate will be able to travel to JAX sites, conferences, or client visits as needed. Up to 30% travel. Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the liaison between internal Portfolio and Product Management leads and external partners to drive commercial success of assigned technology and product lines, including P&L and revenue accountability. Oversee product launches accountable for timelines and deliverables. Drive execution of this plan through the Marketing & Sales, Operations & Delivery functions.
- Ensure the proper governance of existing partnerships with life science technology providers, pharma, biotech and academic partners, including contract compliance.
- Manage all aspects of alliance management of and to partner efficiently with internal stakeholders and advisers to manage value-increasing business operations, including interactions with Jackson Laboratory project management, operations, finance, legal, intellectual property and corporate development teams
- In conjunction with Corporate Development, draft and negotiate term sheets between partners and customers for technology access and licensing and expand research and development activities
- Contribute to the corporate development and specific business strategies of The Jackson Laboratory by identifying new opportunities
- Represent The Jackson Laboratory within our partner network and attend alliance governance meetings
- Lead and Develop Staff (Product managers/Program Managers) as needed
- Lead the development and continuous refinement of the R&D portfolio strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives.
- Facilitate portfolio reviews and scenario planning exercises with senior leadership.
- Develop and maintain portfolio dashboards, KPIs, and performance metrics.
- Provide strategic input into governance processes and portfolio decisions.
- Monitor industry trends and competitive landscapes to inform portfolio strategy.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in life sciences (Master's Degree preferred).
- 5+ years of related experience within a life sciences, CRO, biotech, or related industry.
- 5+ years of supervisory experience required.
- Proven leadership experience in life science tools, particularly in product management or customer-facing roles such as sales or business development.
- Strong financial acumen.
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and influence a diverse range of stakeholders across cultures, disciplines, and organizational levels.
- Demonstrated success in developing and executing strategic initiatives under tight deadlines, with significant business and financial impact.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
- Prior experience working with biopharma clients and a solid understanding of the research market is highly desirable.
- Advanced analytical and market insight capabilities, with a talent for identifying innovative product and service opportunities using existing resources in novel ways.
- Proven track record of strategic leadership and achievement of organizational goals.
