Corporate Safety Manager (West Region)
Department: Corporate Risk & Safety
Reports To: Director of Risk & Safety (Corporate)
Location: Chicago Corporate Office, Southern California, Northern California, or Las Vegas
Travel: Approx. 25-40% (3-4 full weeks per quarter)
POSITION SUMMARY The Corporate Safety Program Manager (West Region) plays a key role in advancing Anning-Johnson Company's safety culture and risk management strategy across multiple trades and districts. This is a corporate governance and program development role, not a site-based safety position. As part of the Corporate Risk & Safety team, this individual designs, implements, and standardizes company-wide safety programs, policies, and training initiatives. Using data analysis, incident trends, and root cause insights, they ensure consistent compliance, communication, and continuous improvement across all operating districts. The ideal candidate brings both field credibility and corporate acumen - combining hands-on construction experience with several years in a district or regional safety management capacity where they've led program development, training, and policy implementation. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Corporate Safety Governance & Program Design
- Develop, update, and govern corporate-level safety policies, procedures, and compliance programs aligned with OSHA, EPA, and company standards.
- Evaluate company-wide incident trends, leading and lagging indicators, and audit data to identify systemic risks and prioritize prevention strategies.
- Standardize best practices across districts to ensure consistent implementation and accountability.
- Partner with district and corporate leadership to align safety programs with operational goals and district strategy.
Data Analysis, Reporting & Communication
- Conduct detailed root-cause analyses following incidents or near-misses and prepare actionable corporate summaries for leadership.
- Translate complex data into clear, visual dashboards and reports for decision-making.
- Deliver executive-level PowerPoint presentations and written communications that summarize performance, trends, and initiatives.
Training, Collaboration & Engagement
- Develop and deliver corporate safety training modules, campaigns, and communication materials that reinforce a proactive safety culture.
- Collaborate closely with District Safety Officers to provide guidance, share insights, and support consistent application of company standards.
- Support leadership in coaching, mentoring, and capability building within district safety teams.
Compliance Oversight & Continuous Improvement
- Manage corporate safety audit programs and ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively across all regions.
- Serve as a liaison with insurance representatives, regulatory agencies, and third-party auditors.
- Identify emerging regulatory changes, industry trends, and technologies to strengthen company programs and improve leading indicators.
QUALIFICATIONS Experience & Education
- 3+ years in a safety management role within a large, self-performing construction environment.
- Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety, Construction Management, Risk Management, or related field preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Demonstrated expertise in OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and related safety regulations.
- Proven ability to design and manage company-wide safety programs and communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and data visualization tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to influence and engage through collaboration and credibility.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and sound judgment in high-pressure situations.
Certifications
- Preferred: GSP, ASP, CHST, STSC, CSP.
- Preferred: Bilingual (English/Spanish).
