Position Summary |
Winston-Salem State University is seeking a dedicated and motivated Grounds/Landscape Technician to join our Facilities Management team. The primary purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive grounds keeping and landscaping services, including trash and recycling support, across the university's campus. This role ensures the upkeep, beauty, and safety of our university grounds through skilled landscape maintenance and customer-focused service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance and landscaping tasks such as mowing lawns, trimming hedges, pruning trees, and planting shrubs, flowers, grass, and trees.
- Water and fertilize plants and lawns; apply weed control solutions as necessary.
- Clear campus grounds, walkways, and roads of leaves, debris, snow, and ice.
- Patch roads and driveways and assist in installing campus signage.
- Use powered groundskeeping equipment and hand tools safely and efficiently.
- Perform minor repairs and routine preventative maintenance on landscape equipment.
- Participate in moving, hauling, and special event set-ups across campus.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to complete work assignments.
- Listen and respond promptly and respectfully to customer and departmental needs.
- Follow instructions carefully and ask clarifying questions to ensure tasks are completed accurately.
Qualifications:
- General knowledge of landscaping practices, tools, and equipment.
- Experience in operating grounds maintenance machinery (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers).
- Ability to perform physical labor outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
- Commitment to safety and quality service.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in a campus or institutional setting is a plus.
- Valid driver's license.
