Northwest Container Services (NWCS), a Waste Connections company, is looking for a Container Heavy Equipment Operator to join our rail yard in Portland, OR.

NWCS is an intermodal train yard that specializes in the storage, repair, and train movement of 20-foot, 40-foot, 45-foot, 48-foot, and 53-foot containers (empty and loaded).

Schedule is Monday-Friday

Shift is 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM with opportunity for overtime.

Wage is $27.00/HR - $30.00/HR

Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate equipment, for example top-pick lift truck, forklift, yard hostler, etc.
  • Follow instructions and manage tasks.
  • Communicate and work as a team to assist customers and complete trains in a timely manner.
  • Complete daily pre/post trip inspection.
  • Assist in cleaning and maintaining equipment as needed.
  • Manage yard organization and communicate locations with our inbound gate clerks.
  • Direct trucks and assist in yard logistics.
  • Groundwork, including train check-in, set or pull twist locks and perform train lockdown and unlocking.
  • Use a tablet to manage and track customers in yard as well as input yard locations on equipment.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 1-year Heavy Equipment Operating experience REQUIRED or professional Heavy Equipment Operating certification.
  • 2-years of Heavy Equipment Operating experience PREFERRED.
  • Valid Drivers License REQUIRED.
  • Safety Sensitive position that requires an eligble criminal background report, clean drug panel screening and acceptable motor vehicle report.
  • Strong commitment to personal safety and the safety of your team and the community we serve.
  • Desire to learn new skills and achieve excellence.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time, lift up to 50lbs. and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb, bend, and stoop to inspect containers.
