Our Academic Technology Department is seeking to hire a part-time Media Services Technician. This position works within the Media Services department and plays a key role in supporting live and recorded media production across the College. This position provides technical support for web conferencing, live streaming, and video production of events, classes, guest speakers, and seminars in various locations on campus.

Position Purpose: |
A core function of this role is supporting live event coverage, including audio reinforcement for College events such as In-Service, campus conferences, Commencement, and other high-profile presentations. The technician is responsible for evaluating venues, setting up audio-visual equipment, and ensuring technical quality during production. This role also supports and promotes accessibility in media delivery, including attention to captioning, inclusive presentation practices, and alignment with institutional accessibility standards. |
Essential Functions: |
- Advise, assist, and provide one-on-one instruction to student workers (Work Study, L.E.T.S., or Co-op Ed.) in live video/audio production, video editing/post-production, media software usage, visual design, and operation of Media Production Lab equipment.
- Produces, designs, implements, and edits multimedia projects that meet clients' goals and adhere to College Graphic Standards.
- In addition to promotional and informational pieces for departments, the technician supports educational materials used in online, classroom, and hybrid course formats.
- Provide technical guidance and support for faculty and staff on multimedia, video, audio, and photography-related projects, and offers hands-on assistance in the Media Services Center.
- Implement and maintain operational policies, procedures, and technical workflows; disseminate information to student workers and team members through shared digital repositories.
- Provide technical support for web conferencing in small and large group settings, including academic classes, department meetings, public forums, and hybrid events.
- Operate and maintain video switchers, post-production workstations, studio classroom systems, internet protocol video systems, video streaming encoders, microphones, audio mixers, and lighting equipment to ensure smooth delivery of both live and recorded events.
- Technical setup and live support for major campus events such as Commencement, In-Service, speaker series, and internal conferences. Evaluate venues, plan coverage, and manage event-specific AV needs including sound reinforcement and integration with live streaming or conferencing platforms.
- Test and troubleshoot a range of AV hardware and software, working independently in the field to resolve technical issues and ensure seamless production delivery.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and departments to assess multimedia needs, define project goals, and deliver media content that meets educational and promotional objectives.
- As applicable, promote and implement accessibility best practices in media production, including support for captioning, audio clarity, and inclusive visual content that complies with ADA and WCAG standards.
- Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.
- Other duties as assigned.

Supervision Statement: |

Physical Demands/Working Environment: |
This position works indoors and is exposed to usual office working conditions that include office noises and interruptions, such as printers, telephones, and visitors. This position requires that an employee is able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; perform cognitive and psychometric work for more than six (6) hours a day. Work may require transporting materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Work safely. |
Knowledge Skills and Abilities: |
- Knowledge of digital video production, including camera operation, lighting design, and audio capture for both studio and field settings.
- Proficiency with post-production tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Audition, Photoshop, and related media editing software.
- Experience with live streaming and switching software and hardware, including OBS, Zoom, ATEM switchers, and streaming encoders.
- Skill in setting up and operating live sound reinforcement systems, including PA systems, microphones, audio mixers, and integrating audio for live and streamed environments.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems with AV systems under real-time, event-driven conditions.
- Understanding of accessibility standards in media production, including captioning tools and best practices for inclusive visual and audio content.
- Ability to train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to student employees or interns in media production workflows.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, and clients to define project needs and deliver appropriate media solutions.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, contributing to a team-based, service-oriented production environment.
- Provide support to employees working to meet accreditation standards through evaluation and assessment of student outcomes.
