Position Summary:

The Staff Accountant 1 is responsible for reconciling various internal checking and general ledger accounts, designing new reconciliations and processes as needed. Work with personnel in other departments to document flow of entries and reconciliation procedures and to research and resolve outstanding issues timely and efficiently. Review all manual general ledger tickets. Execute all branch coin/currency orders. Assist in other department tasks, including wire transfers, accounts payables, and internal and external reporting as needed.

This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay.

This position can be located in downtown New Orleans or Mandeville.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Skills:


  • GED or high school diploma
  • 5+ years working knowledge of general accounting principles
  • Advanced understanding of accounting/bookkeeping principles
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams
  • Developed cognitive skills including Detail Oriented, Analytical, Problem Solving, Organization, Time Management and Planning
  • Developed intrapersonal skills including Follow-Through, Resourcefulness and Initiative
  • Developed interpersonal skills to include Communication, Listening, Speaking, Writing, Collaboration, Resilience and Balance
  • Developed technological skills to include Technical Acumen, Project Management, and Knowledge Management
  • Ability to work proactively, independently and in team setting with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Skills:


  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • 5 years of bank accounting experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Prepare Accounting department daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations
  • Design and document reconciliation processes and procedures when needed
  • Business continuity team member assisting and executing critical functions including wire transfers, accounts payables, and internal and external reporting when needed
  • Collect, organize, and review all monthly reconciliations performed by other team members or departments to ensure that all internal checking and Balance Sheet accounts are reconciled, approved and support month end balances
  • Respond to all requests for reconciliation documentation and support from internal and external sources, including management, internal auditors, external auditors and regulatory examiners
  • Review all manual general ledger transaction tickets, reinforcing bank ticket handling procedures and providing training when needed
  • Review daily system error, exception, and maintenance reports
  • Review daily department journal entries, ensuring proper documentation and support
  • Execute branch coin/currency orders, providing support and training as needed
  • Assist with the preparation of Fixed Asset, Prepaid and Accrual entries
  • Assist with internal reporting and special projects, including department procedure manual

  • Comply with regulatory rules and regulations evidenced through successful completion of training and demonstrated ability
  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as appointed by management
  • Physical Requirements: primarily sitting with some standing, walking, lifting and bending
