The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Warriors Speak Spokesperson is a spokesperson for WWP in the Warriors Speak program speaking publicly and virtually to supporters, donors, current and potential WWP Warriors, the media, and internal teammates around the country to raise awareness and support for the Wounded Warrior Project and to facilitate engaging warriors and caregivers in our programs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Speak publicly and share accurate personal stories with public and private organizations as well as media outlets.
  • Represent WWP at Warrior events, media opportunities, recreational events, fundraising events, and other events.
  • Work with staff to regularly communicate, network, mentor, and outreach to wounded warriors across the country as a representative of WWP.
  • Work with teammates and warriors to train and support them in storytelling practices.
  • Understand, contribute to, and spread the word of the mission of WWP.
  • Work with wounded warriors who have not yet had contact with WWP and educate them about WWP's programs and services.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Warriors Speak Manager and the broader Communications team to keep apprised of consistent messaging and priorities.
  • Build community relationships to support the growth of and raise awareness for WWP.
  • Create pre-recorded content to distribute internally and externally to raise awareness and show gratitude.
  • Provide insight on current veteran challenges to inform and educate internally and externally.
  • Generate speaking engagements by building and managing relationships within the veteran, nonprofit, and public speaking communities.
  • Lead virtual presentations and trainings
  • Maintain the professionalism, passion, and dedication required of a WWP representative in this role.
  • Attend and actively participate in required training and/or meetings, including but not limited to New Teammate Orientation, WWP Cares, ASIST Suicide Prevention training, Leadership training, culture/team based training, or departmental huddles.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully complete an intensive speaker training (within three weeks after hire).
  • Demonstrated willingness to share your story with the public.
  • Demonstrated ability to travel regularly.
  • Previous programmatic interaction with Wounded Warrior Project.
  • Effective, competent communicator. High level of comfort speaking publicly.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Wounded Warrior Project's history, mission, vision, and values.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly build rapport with others. Ability to communicate with diverse personalities in a tactful, mature, and flexible manner.
  • Upbeat, positive, outgoing, and personable, with the ability to relate well with diverse populations and age groups.
  • Ability to take initiative, develop contacts, and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Able to quickly build rapport with others.
  • Good listening skills and willingness to serve others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work remotely yet maintain a culture of teamwork.
  • Computer skills necessary to communicate electronically and use internet-based programs.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • High energy level, self-starter willing to take initiative.
  • Unequivocal commitment to the highest standards of personal and business ethics and conduct.
  • Mission-driven, guided by core values, and a pleasure to work with.

EXPERIENCE

Requirements:

  • Approved Wounded Warrior Project Warrior or Family Support member in good standing with multiple program interactions.

Preferences:

  • Three years of public speaking experience.

EDUCATION

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • General office environment, temperature controlled.
  • Up to 75% travel.
  • Sitting for extended periods.
  • May require lifting/carrying items up to 20 pounds.

For Colorado Applicants: The estimated hiring range for this position is between $46,099 - $57,624 annual base salary,subject to a candidate's combination of experience, qualifications, and credentials. This position may also be eligible for an annual performance incentive.

For San Diego or Sacramento, California, and Washington state Applicants: The estimated hiring range for this position is between $50,489 - $63,112 annual base salary,subject to a candidate's combination of experience, qualifications, and credentials. This position may also be eligible for an annual performance incentive.

For Los Angeles or San Francisco, California and Washington, D.C. Applicants: The estimated hiring range for this position is between $52,684 - $65,856 annual base salary,subject to a candidate's combination of experience, qualifications, and credentials. This position may also be eligible for an annual performance incentive.

For New York Applicants: The estimated hiring range for this position is between $54,880 - $68,600 annual base salary,subject to a candidate's combination of experience, qualifications, and credentials. This position may also be eligible for an annual performance incentive.
