Position: Central Processing Technician I Department: Central Processing Schedule: 40 hours, Day/Evening, Every 3rd Weekend POSITION SUMMARY: The Central Processing Technician I position (CP Tech I) is a training position. In this position, a newly hired employee will be exposed to the full range of Central Processing Technician functions carried out by CP Techs at BMC and evaluated for competency in those functions specific to the CP Tech I role. All CP Tech 1s, regardless of background or prior experience, are given training in and eventually made responsible for collection and inventory, cleaning and decontamination, kit assembly, sterilization, and distribution of instruments, supplies, and equipment to the Operating Rooms, Labor and Delivery, Ambulatory Surgery and other customer departments. All CP Tech Is will be trained; to maintain detailed sterilization records, set priorities to complete assigned work on time, and demonstrate superb interpersonal skills that enable the Department to achieve its mission. At the end of one year training period, all CP Tech Is will be required certification as a Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) by the International Association for Central Sterile Healthcare Materials Management (IAHCSMM).
