MARINE MECHANIC 1ST CLASS
Location: Cape May-Lewes Ferry Cape May, NJ $34.61 per hour ($71,998 annualized) Opening Date: May 23, 2025 Closing Date: June 6, 2025 I. POSITION SUMMARY Diagnose and effect necessary repairs to any machinery or mechanical equipment on board Authority vessels, work boat, and ashore. Has thorough knowledge of equipment being repaired with respect to specifications and guidelines required for safe and reliable maintenance. Responsible for following established safety practices while performing assigned duties to protect self, co-workers and the public from personal injury and to prevent damage to Authority property. This position is a bargaining unit position that is represented by the Marine Engineers' Beneficial Association (MEBA). II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Overhaul / repair diesel engines and auxiliary equipment * Repair pumps, motors, hydraulic systems and components and pneumatic systems and components * Repair, inspect, and clean hot water boilers * Repair / maintain vacuum, and sewage system components * Maintain clean and safe work area and assist other skilled employees in their craft * Equipment Used in Job Performance: o All types of mechanical and pneumatic hand tools and special tools such as torque wrenches o Drill presses, electric drills and grinders o Measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, deflection and stroke gauges o Motor vehicles, fork lift, chain falls, arbor press, lathe, and pressure washer III. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES * Must have a thorough working knowledge of engine and mechanical systems repair * Familiarity in the use of all types of hand tools including measuring devices * Ability to perform heavy, physical labor * Understanding and interpreting mechanical blueprints and technical manuals * Must be familiar with safety precautions involved in this field IV. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE * Must be 21 years of age or older * Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent or equivalent experience, with 5 years experience in repair of engines and electrical and mechanical systems VI. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS * Must have attended and successfully completed Fairbanks Morse overhaul for 38D8-1/8 engine * Must have attended and successfully completed Detroit Series 71 overhaul school * Must have attended and successfully completed Caterpillar overhaul school for 3412 and 1408 engines V. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND/OR CERTIFICATES * Valid driver's license * Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) VI.
