Hourly Pay Range:

$28.47 - $42.71 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Workforce Development Program Specialist

The Workforce Development Program Specialist will play a vital role in supporting and expanding workforce development initiatives within ASPIRE Lake County. This position will focus on coordinating internship and mentorship programs, engaging in developmental coaching with interns, and assessing program impact across the health system and Lake County community. The Specialist will work closely with internal teams, educational institutions, community partners, and employers to ensure high-quality career development opportunities for participants.

Position Highlights:

  • Position: Workforce Development Program Specialist

  • Location: Skokie, IL

  • Full Time/Part Time: Full Time

  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm, in addition to some evenings

  • Required Travel: Travel to Highland Park Hospital will be required

What you will do:

Program Coordination & Implementation

  • Support the design, coordination, and execution of workforce development programs, including internships, mentorships, and career readiness initiatives.

  • Serve as point of contact for interns, managers, and community partners, ensuring smooth communication and engagement.

  • Assist in structuring career pathway programs and workshops to enhance participant experience.

  • Organize logistics for workforce-related events, including scheduling, setting up venues, managing RSVPs, and preparing materials.

Internship & Mentorship Program Support

  • Coordinate all aspects of internship and mentorship programs, ensuring alignment with workforce development goals.

  • Facilitate onboarding for interns and mentors, ensuring a structured and supportive experience.

  • Conduct developmental coaching conversations with interns, providing guidance on career readiness, professional skills, and goal setting.

  • Track and assess intern progress, providing ongoing support and troubleshooting any issues.

Data Collection, Assessment & Program Impact

  • Collect and analyze workforce development program data to assess outcomes and areas for improvement.

  • Track key performance indicators such as intern placement rates, participant feedback, and employer engagement.

  • Develop reports to demonstrate program effectiveness, impact on the health system, and contributions to the surrounding Lake County community.

  • Use data insights to recommend enhancements for program growth and efficiency.

Employer & Community Partnerships

  • Assist in building and maintaining relationships with local businesses, healthcare organizations, and educational institutions to create internship and job opportunities.

  • Engage with community stakeholders to expand workforce initiatives and outreach efforts.

  • Facilitate collaboration between interns, mentors, and professionals to strengthen career pipeline opportunities.

  • Administrative & Special Projects:

  • Provide administrative support, including scheduling meetings, note-taking, and managing participant records.

  • Assist with marketing and outreach efforts to promote workforce programs through flyers, newsletters, and social media content.

  • Support special projects related to workforce development, career coaching, and strategic program initiatives.

What you will need:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience in workforce development, education, human resources, social work, business administration, or a related field.

  • Certification: n/a

  • Experience: 2+ years of related experience supporting workforce development, career services, educational programming, or human resources initiatives, particularly in healthcare, education, or nonprofit sectors.

  • Unique or Preferred Skills:

    • Comprehensive knowledge of workforce development strategies, career readiness programming, and experiential learning best practices

    • Strong understanding of internship and mentorship program coordination, developmental coaching methodologies, and participant engagement techniques

    • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects, organize events, and execute multiple initiatives concurrently within a fast-paced environment.

    • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust, coach diverse populations, and maintain productive relationships with students, community members, internal stakeholders, and external partners.

    • Proficient in program data collection, analysis, and reporting, with the ability to assess program impact, identify trends, and recommend actionable improvements.

    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly, facilitate group discussions, and create professional program materials.

    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams while demonstrating strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and flexibility in managing shifting priorities.
