The Lead Pharmacist provides direction for their assigned pharmacy or area to ensure adherence to all pharmacy policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, best practice documents, standard operating procedures and proper workflows. The Lead Pharmacist is responsible for providing direction and leadership to pharmacy assistants, pharmacy technicians in training, pharmacy interns, pharmacist residents, pharmacy technicians, and staff pharmacist at their site who provide pharmaceutical care to patients at Fred Hutch. The Lead Pharmacist leads the development and maintenance of safe, timely, efficient, equitable, effective, cost-effective and patient-centered pharmacy patient care services.

Responsibilities

    Oversee all components of assigned pharmacy or clinic including but not limited to clinical review of orders, order verification and dispensing
  • Ensure safe and effective pharmacy operations including adherence to all pharmacy laws and regulations including USP 797, USP 800, The Joint Commission, and the Washington State Department of Health
  • Assist in the development and/or maintenance of patient care services and operational policies and procedures
  • Maintain knowledge of current clinical issues, industry practice standards, accreditation standards, and investigational drug service tasks and incorporate these into daily practice
  • Direct the work of pharmacy staff assigned to the work area or shift including pharmacy assistants, pharmacy interns, pharmacy residents, pharmacy technicians, and staff pharmacists
  • Collaborate with pharmacy managers and lead their assigned area for the provision of safe, timely, efficient, equitable, effective, and patient-centered pharmacy patient care services
  • Collaborate and communicate with stakeholders outside of the pharmacy department on process improvement initiatives
  • Actively resolve issues identified with daily operations and work with other departments to solve service-related issues when identified, including reviewing safety reports for assigned area
  • Participate in accurate dispensing and documentation of investigational drugs
  • Implement and monitor patient medication therapy for achievement of desired therapeutic outcomes
  • Maintain accurate medication profiles for patients
  • Act as a drug information resource and consultant to physicians, nurses, and patients regarding potential adverse reactions, interactions, and proper use and administration of drugs dispensed
  • Patient education on chemotherapy and supportive care
  • In conjunction with your manager, provide evaluations and feedback on pharmacy personnel
  • Assist in developing training materials for staff
  • Precept students and residents as assigned
  • Maintain competencies and participate in medication preparation activities as appropriate for assigned area
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned


Qualifications

Required for this job:

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy
  • Three years of experience in pharmacy practice (months spent in the completion of an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists accredited residency training program may substitute month-for-month for the experience)
  • State of Washington Pharmacist license.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical, change management, workflow development, and process improvement skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse teams

Preferred for this job:

  • Doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) degree, or equivalent, from an accredited School of Pharmacy
  • Completion of residency training
  • Board certification
  • Prior Epic experience
  • Previous leadership, project management, and/or process improvement experience preferred
  • Experience in oncology pharmacy
  • Experience providing constructive feedback to members of a team
  • Experience with Epic Willow Inpatient and Beacon Oncology applications

Pre Employment Drug Screening:

As a condition of employment Fred Hutch conducts pre-employment drug testing for this pharmacy role. All offers of employment in the pharmacy department are conditional on the applicant successfully completing and passing a drug test in accordance with the Fred Hutch policy.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $153,753.60 to $256,235.20 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.
