Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Department of Periodontology, Endodontics and Dental Hygiene houses several disciplines including, Periodontology, Endodontics and Dental Hygiene. The Division Chair with the support of the Business Manager is overseeing the operating procedures for the entire department (including the disciplines from the Department of Restorative Sciences: General Dentistry, Operative Dentistry/ BioMaterials, and Prosthodontics). The Department of Periodontology, Endodontics and Dental Hygiene consists of full-time faculty, part-time faculty, phased retired faculty and adjunct faculty; full-time and part-time staff;
DDS, MSc and PhD students; clinical/research fellows and visiting scholars. The Department of Periodontology, Endodontics and Dental Hygiene balances teaching, scholarship, patient care, research and professional service activities. |
Position Summary |
This highly professional Administrative Support Associate position is responsible for many fiduciary, compliance and administrative duties with expertise in business development, systems, writing, accounting, billing, shipping and receiving. The responsibilities consist of working with the Department Chair of Periodontology, Endodontics and Dental Hygiene, Graduate and Predoctoral Program Directors and Department Business Manager to achieve daily tasks. This position interfaces with everyone in the department from the
DDS students, residents, faculty and all staff. The position requires excellent verbal & written communication skills, analytical & organizational skills, the ability to multi-task and prioritize competing demands in a highly active environment, and computer expertise with software applications specific to the role. Building relationships with internal and external customers is essential to this role. The person in this position will be responsible for the handling of confidential and time sensitive material for the department. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Prior work experience in a dental/medical office setting. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
The preferred candidate will have experience in a clinical and academic setting; will have a strong record of accomplishment of excellent customer service, accounting acumen and appropriate problem-solving skills. Experience with various computer systems/software a plus. Experience with
UNC systems and software is desired. Preferred candidate should also be flexible, dependable, adaptable and willing to learn new skills. Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel and Access) strongly desired. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices and procedures. Ability to effectively communicate via phone and email ensuring that all Administrative Support duties are completed accurately and delivered with high quality and in a timely manner. |
