ABOUT THE POSITION

Geomatics Manager - Williamsburg, VA

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Geomatics Manager to lead our Survey/Geomatics team based in Williamsburg, Virginia. This leadership role will guide the strategic growth of our geomatics practice across private and federal markets. The position offers a blend of office-based responsibilities, remote flexibility, and field work as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Service Line Leadership

    Lead and execute service line strategies in alignment with VHB's regional and company-wide goals.
  • Identify opportunities for new services, technologies, and market growth within the geomatics discipline.
  • Collaborate with local and regional leadership to drive key hires, client development, and technical excellence.
  • Monitor financial performance and ensure operational efficiency within the Williamsburg Survey/Geomatics group.

Technology & Innovation

  • Promote the use of advanced survey technologies including UAS, terrestrial scanning, LiDAR, and GPS systems.
  • Evaluate and implement new tools and workflows to enhance project delivery and client satisfaction.

Project & Quality Management

  • Manage full project life cycles from scoping and planning through execution and delivery.
  • Ensure quality control and consistency across all deliverables and processes.
  • Support cross-office work sharing and staff resourcing for large, complex projects.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor a team of survey professionals across office, field, and remote settings.
  • Oversee hiring, training, performance management, and career development within the group.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and innovation.

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills with a strategic mindset.
  • Proficiency in survey technologies and software including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble, and LiDAR platforms.
  • Excellent communication skills-verbal, written, and interpersonal.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and teams in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and highly self-motivated.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensed Land Surveyor in Virginia required; or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in survey/geomatics, including project and staff management.
  • Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Multi-state licensure is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of private and federal project requirements.
