Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Assistant Dean II for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. The Assistant Dean for Experiential Learning takes the lead to operationalize, facilitate, promote, and track experiential learning (EL) and career planning at
SEBS. Cooperative education, which combines classroom learning with practical work experience, lies at the heart of the
SEBS undergraduate mission as well as its land-grant mission.
SEBS promotional documents and web-housed literature speak to the direct relationship between classroom-based education and experiential learning/practical work experience at the school. The latest education science literature emphasizes that the best way to learn is by applying classroom-based knowledge with real-world application of that knowledge.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Supports experiential learning, a signature career and skills development program at SEBS, by developing and executing processes that identify and curate these opportunities for SEBS undergraduates.
- Develops relationships with internal and external internship and research entities, advises undergraduates on these opportunities as well as facilitating career options and planning, and successfully supports students and partners in the experiential-learning relationship.
- Works with the Senior Administrative Assistant to support the Student to Professional Internship Network (SPIN) program, and it particularly connects with Rutgers-based resources such as Rutgers Cooperative Extension with offices in NJ communities in every county to develop and promote internship opportunities.
- Builds and supports all internal and outward-facing components of the Experiential Learning process to enhance SEBS student retention, recruitment, and career readiness.
