Job Description

Summary of Position

The Senior Associate Athletic Director is a key member of the Augsburg Athletics department leadership team, overseeing the administrative and operational aspects of the department. This position will work in tandem with the Athletic Director to align the Athletics department with Augsburg's strategic plan, mission and vision. The Senior Associate Athletic Director will partner with the Athletic Director in leading the athletics department in the areas of budget, compliance, Title IX and gender equity, human resources, and holistic student-athlete support. In addition, the Senior Associate Athletic Director will be an active and visible liaison and collaborator between Athletics and other campus departments.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assists the Athletic Director with administrative responsibilities including policy implementation, program development, and strategic planning.
  • Oversees specific areas within the Athletic department, including compliance, human resources, and game day operations.
  • Oversees specific teams as assigned.
  • Oversees the Sports Communication department.
  • Ensures compliance with NCAA regulations, conference policies, and institutional rules including all HR policies.
  • In partnership with the athletic director, monitors athletic compliance with Title IX and gender equity requirements.
  • In partnership with the Athletic Director, implements gender equity policies across the department.
  • Assists with the development and management of the Athletic department budget.
  • Coordinating and overseeing athletic events, including scheduling, logistics, and event operations.
  • Participates in fundraising activities and developing relationships with donors and alumni.
  • Provides holistic support to student-athletes and mentors coaches and staff in student support tactics.
  • Partners with the Athletic Director on day-to-day supervision of athletic department staff, including coaches.
  • Approves time-off requests and monitors timekeeping compliance.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Athletics department and other campus departments, such as Academic Affairs and Student Affairs.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Represents the Athletics department on University-wide committees and task forces.
  • Other duties as apparent or assigned by supervisor.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • This position works on-campus the majority of the time with some flexibility for remote-work.
  • Regular computer and phone use.
  • Frequent evening, weekend and irregular/extended hours.
  • May require local, regional and national travel.
  • Regular attendance at indoor and outdoor sporting events and being exposed to temperature extremes.
  • May be exposed to noise level extremes.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying of up to 30 pounds.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in athletic operations.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership roles within a college athletics program.
  • Strong understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience in building strong inclusive teams.
  • Valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the University by the University's insurance carrier.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop, mentor, and lead high-performing staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement staff accountability.
  • Demonstrated deep knowledge of Title IX Athletics requirements, including how to enact equitable policies and procedures through the department structure.
  • Deep knowledge of NCAA compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student success tactics and demonstrated ability to build cross-campus relationships that support the student experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of equity principles and how to build a department culture and policies that support all student-athletes.
  • Experience managing game day operations at a leadership level.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, organizational, verbal, writing, interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to plan, establish priorities, and organize varied and complex tasks.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays depending on work and game schedules.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, work as part of a team, and motivate staff in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.

Compensation & Benefits at Augsburg

  • The compensation range is $80,000 - $100,000, DOQ.
