Switchboard Zoo Worker

Hourly Pay Range: $10.36 - $16.30

Closing Date: 5/26/2025 or upon receipt of the first 50 applications

Job Summary: The Switchboard Zoo Worker operates the Zoo's central reception and communication systems to coordinate all emergency and non-emergency situations. This position also provides high-quality customer service to the public.

Essential Responsibilities:



  • Operate an integrated communications system while being responsible for the switchboard console, which receives, transmits, screens, and transfers several hundred telephone calls per day.
  • Perform high intensity customer service contact including resolving guest complaints and problem-solving. Responsible for receiving and giving information. Coordinate lost and found items and log.


  • Monitor and respond to three (3) radio channels. Receive, prioritize, and respond quickly and accurately to radio transmissions. Receive and transmit instructions and information to radio users.
  • Coordinate all emergency calls quickly and accurately with emergency personnel (EMT's, Sheriff's department, Fire and/or Paramedic Units, and Zoo staff). Receive and transmit orders and information and monitor and report on situations. Coordinate the lost person procedure.
  • Coordinate and log, perform refunds, sell gift cards, and handle admission tickets and vending. Prepare the daily cash report.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.



Minimum Requirements:



  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Possession of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in Administrative Office Work, Reception, Customer Service, or Dispatch.


  • Intermediate knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Willing and able to work irregular hours with frequent overtime, weekend work, or shift rotations.
  • Willing and able to have frequent on-call availability, with the possibility of irregular, unpredictable, or long hours.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in Hospital, 911, Fire, EMS, or other dispatch.
  • Experience using modern point of sale or other cashier technology systems.
