Your Opportunity
As part of our Engineering team, you would analyze data, draft implementation plans for production process optimization. Seeking out ways to maximize efficiencies by eliminating the waste of valuable resources that directly impact our overall operating costs. You are instrumental to the manufacturing of Smithfield, Eckrich, Nathan's Famous, and our other product brands, to meet the needs of our customers and consumers. The Construction Manager assists the Capital Project Management Team in the design, management, scheduling, and execution of construction focused capital projects. This role leads construction management methodology for the company and is responsible for building capability of construction management throughout the company. Insures successful implementation of construction for all projects.
Core Responsibilities
Maintain and update company construction specifications, standards, construction related project logs, and schedules. Develop training material and build capability in the organization regarding construction management. Lead, coach and guide the organization in successful construction management methodologies. Execute the Request for Quotation (RFQ) process from detailing the scope of work and applicable specifications, bid reviews, and contractor selection. Identify, process, and execute Requests for Information (RFIs). Manage all construction regulatory and code aspects with the appropriate local government agencies; permitting, surveys, geotechnical information, etc. Schedule and coordinate facility construction activities. Visit project sites to monitor progress and conformance to company established standards. Prepare, review, and process shop drawings, and maintain as-built drawings. Collect and assemble O&M material and assist with purchasing and expediting. Performs additional Engineering duties during the construction planning process.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field and 5+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required. 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development is required. Knowledge of engineering principles and techniques related to food processing and the meat industry, preferred. Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and design issues. General knowledge of building codes, construction specifications, construction management, and construction project scheduling. Must possess Project Management skills; Contract Administration skills; National codes and standards interpretation skills. Previous experience in the execution of multi-million dollar projects, desirable. Proficient in AutoCAD. Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, and adaptability. Travel is required with extended overnight stays. Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment. Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities but may act as a lead by providing training and guidance to other engineering professionals.

The majority of the time is spent in an office setting outside of the production plant and on construction sites. The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals. The construction site will consist of disturbed earthwork, building, electrical, and mechanical construction, normal external weather conditions, noise, dust, and chemicals normally associated with construction activities. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area. Inspection of construction sites, walking un-even terrain, climbing ladders, accessing roofs, etc. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. Frequently required to sit, use hands to handle, or feel and talk or hear.
