AOTA 12-Month Neurological Fellowship Program

Inova Rehabilitation Neurologic Occupational Therapy Fellowship Program is a 52-week program that begins in September of each year. The fellow will pay tuition to account for administrative fees and resources. The fellowship incorporates a multitude of clinical and didactic experiences. The fellow will receive clinical practice as a treating clinician and dedicated 1:1 mentorship.

Occupational Therapist Job Responsibilities:



  • Documents evaluation results clearly and completely according to department policy.
  • Completes daily progress notes that reflect patients' responses to treatment, actual performance and an assessment as to status, relevant to the treatment plan, and eventual discharge needs and treatment summaries if needed.
  • Completes discharge notes that include a summary of the course of treatment, progress toward goals, discharge needs, recommendations for follow-up and patient and/or family education.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, medical staff, care team members, students, supervisors and outside contacts.
  • Provides educational materials and methods appropriate to patients' level of understanding and motivation.
  • Demonstrates essential skill competencies in the use of treatment modalities, equipment and protocols. Performs re-evaluations according to department guidelines - adjusting the treatment plan as needed.



Eligibility requirements:



  • Graduate of an ACOTE accredited Occupational Therapy program
  • Successful completion of NBCOT exam
  • Virginia Occupational Therapy license must be active by start date
  • BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association completed upon start date
  • AOTA or VOTA membership preferred
