Position Summary:

The BSA Assistant Manager works under the supervision of the BSA Manager and is responsible for the operations of Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering (BSA/AML) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) activities within the department and in coordination with other areas in accordance with the Credit Union's mission statement and strategic plan. Work involves execution and oversight of a comprehensive BSA and OFAC program to ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations. The position also assists in the supervision of BSA employees including interviewing and hiring, training, coaching, and performance evaluation.

Work Location - This position is a hybrid working arrangement. Expectation is to be onsite a minimum of 1-2 days per week at our Headquarters in East Lansing, MI.

Schedule - Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm Eastern Standard Time; Additionally, having flexibility to support team/answer questions during standard department hours as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Conduct quality control reviews of all BSA Specialists' tasks, ensuring compliance with all BSA requirements, and provide corrective action when necessary.
  • Support the team in the daily compliance task related to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
  • Provide employee feedback to department managers outside of BSA.
  • Oversee the ongoing development and maintenance of BSA and OFAC compliance procedures and assist in creating compliance training materials.
  • Serve as a resource to provide BSA and OFAC compliance advice and guidance to all Credit Union employees.
  • Provide written reports regarding the status of the Credit Union's compliance with BSA and OFAC rules and regulations to senior management and the Board of Directors.
  • Track and analyze legislative and regulatory changes related to BSA and OFAC, assessing their potential impact on the Credit Union's risk. Report key compliance updates to BSA Management.
  • Foster and promote a culture of risk awareness and accountability. Understand the Credit Union's policies and procedures to ensure compliance and accountability for managing operational risks. Adhere to established internal controls and procedures to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and maintain the integrity of credit union operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Job Requirements:



  • This position requires a bachelor's degree in a business-oriented or legal discipline
  • Prior experience in leading others is required; - OR must have completed or be actively enrolled in a Credit Union leadership program.
  • Prior experience working in BSA, Financial Crimes, Compliance, or industries related to financial laws and regulations affecting credit unions is preferred
  • Prior experience in financial institutions is preferred
  • One or more relevant certifications preferred or ability to obtain upon hire (e.g. Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), Certified BSA/AML Professional (CBAP), Certified financial Crime Specialist (CFCS), or similar)

Physical Demands & Work Environment:



  • May be required to remain in a stationary position for an extended period.
  • Ability to operate standard office technology, equipment, and tools, which may include many hours of computer and phone usage.
  • Occasionally needs to move about inside of an office area.
  • Exposure to potentially hazardous condition, i.e. robbery. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the exposure.
  • This position can work in hybrid or onsite working arrangements.
