Essential Job Duties
The Environmental Services Technician plays an essential role in maintaining the cleanliness, comfort, and presentation of the Chancellor's residence-one of NC State University's most visible and welcoming spaces. This position combines hands-on cleaning with attention to detail, professionalism, and pride in service.
In this role, you'll perform daily and seasonal cleaning duties using both standard and specialized equipment to ensure the residence is always ready to host guests and represent the university at its best. The work involves regular physical activity, including frequently lifting up to 30 pounds and occasionally up to 60 pounds (with or without reasonable accommodation), grasping, pushing, and pulling cleaning equipment, and reaching, bending, squatting, climbing, and balancing as part of daily duties. You'll work closely with supervisors and team members to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize assigned areas to maintain a safe and professional environment.
  • Operate equipment such as vacuums, mops, scrubbers, and pressure washers for routine and deep cleaning.
  • Perform seasonal cleaning projects, including window washing, carpet extraction, and floor polishing.
  • Report maintenance issues and assist with emergency response and snow/ice removal as needed.

Other Responsibilities

  • Support snow and ice removal efforts during inclement weather as part of a team response.
  • Participate in group cleaning projects during scheduled breaks or when areas become accessible.
  • Step in to assist with cleaning duties outside your regular area when coverage is needed.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and take on new tasks as the needs of the team or facility evolve.

Qualifications




Minimum Experience/Education
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Special certification may be required for some of these positions.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing housekeeping duties in a university or commercial environment.
  • Flexibility to respond to emergencies, seasonal tasks, or special assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and the public and follow assignment instructions.
