Location: This position is based on-site in Chicopee, MA. The position holder will need to be within commuting distance (within 45 min). The position will be on-site full time.

Process Engineer Summary:

The Process Engineer applies advanced knowledge of materials, engineering theory and methods to design, integrate, and improve company wide manufacturing systems or related processes and new process development. Work with designers, to refine product designs to increase manufacturability and decrease costs. Oversees and assesses existing processes and workflows. Optimizes productivity by designing, implementing, and testing new procedures. Communicates findings and proposals to upper management. Tracks metrics to discover areas for improvement and monitor upgrades. Provides thorough instructions for successful implementation of process changes.

Process Engineer Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Applies lean manufacturing techniques to reduce manufacturing waste in a job shop environment.
  • Conducts time studies and adjusts production standards as required.
  • Reviews monthly Job Closes to analyses trends and opportunities for improvement per set performance goals.
  • Supports and manages (VIP) Value Improvement Program projects, costs analysis and project implementation.
  • Continually monitors scrap rates and initiates projects to reduce scrap cost in manufacturing.
  • Creates Value Stream Maps for critical products and processes.
  • Supports and trains employees in 5S practices.
  • Works with team leaders and production management to review shop order variances (material and labor) and initiates projects to eliminate variances and improve actual cost performance.
  • Trains work cell team members in continuous improvement working with team leaders and production supervision to create a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Collects and utilizes data to make data driven decisions.
  • Designs, installs and troubleshoots basic manufacturing equipment such as jigs, fixtures and gages.
  • Designs, develops and manufactures tooling and fixtures to support continuous improvement projects.
  • Utilizes six sigma tools and methodologies to determine root cause of failures using statistical methods and recommends changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.
  • Prepares estimates and proposals for projects to aid approval of continuous improvement projects through knowledge of UFP manufacturing capabilities and appropriate materials selection.
  • Tracks continuous improvements projects and reports results on a monthly basis.
  • Prepares reports summarizing information or trends related to manufacturing performance.
  • Documents improvement of processes and trains production personnel in new or existing methodology.
  • Manages new product transfer into production, working with the design team on new product designs to ensure that our processes are capable of meeting customer requirements.
  • Interacts with customers, account managers, manufacturing personnel, vendors and team members whenever necessary to satisfy project requirements.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned or needed.
Process Engineer Education / Experience:
  • Bachelor's in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering or relevant discipline and 2-4 years in manufacturing engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong lean manufacturing experience, knowledge, and practitioner.
  • Must have a proven track record in applying lean manufacturing and other continuous improvement manufacturing methodologies.
  • Experience with CAD, MS Project strongly desired.
  • Proven track record applying analysis to develop and control processes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Manufacturing experience must include heavy emphasis on assembly operations, tooling evaluation, vendor qualification, facilities engineering and cost savings through process improvement.
  • Ability to persuade others to change existing practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
