The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary The Department of Infectious Diseases at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a dynamic candidate with a background in biological research to join a vibrant team investigating drug-resistant malaria. The Laboratory Technician will work under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), focusing on the epigenetic mechanisms of Plasmodium falciparum parasite drug resistance. This role involves exploring novel pathways that parasites use to evade antimalarial action. Key responsibilities include culturing malaria parasites, generating genetically edited parasites, performing drug dose-response assays, preparing samples for mass spectrometry-based proteomics and tRNA analysis, and interpreting data. The technician will assist the PI in experimental execution and design, contributing to a highly collaborative research environment shared with another prominent laboratory. Interaction with postdoctoral scientists, graduate students, and other research technicians is expected. Additionally, the candidate will handle general lab management tasks, such as exchanging materials with collaborators and ordering supplies. This position offers the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research aimed at understanding novel genetic mechanisms of drug resistance in malaria, a disease with significant impact in tropical regions. Applicants should be highly motivated, self-sufficient, detail-oriented, and passionate about infectious disease research and global health. A strong interest in genetics and cell biology is essential. To apply, please include your CV with a summary of research experience, transcript, and a statement of interest. Responsibilities
