Position Overview


Position Summary
The IT Security Professional III is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing advanced cybersecurity strategies to protect organizational assets, networks, and data. This role involves risk assessment, security incident response, vulnerability management, and compliance monitoring to ensure adherence to industry regulations and best practices. The IT Security Professional III serves as a technical expert in security architecture, threat analysis, and mitigation strategies, working closely with IT teams, business units, and leadership to strengthen the organization's security posture.
This position requires a deep understanding of network security, endpoint protection, identity and access management ( IAM), cloud security, and incident handling . The IT Security Professional III will also develop and enforce security policies, conduct security audits, and lead security awareness training initiatives.

  • Plan and execute short- and medium-term information security improvement projects and initiatives intended to improve the university's information security posture, tools, policies, processes, and procedures with guidance and support from the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
  • Work with vendors and CISO to enhance and maintain the university security program, and security projects that address identified risks and business security requirements.
  • Gather, analyze, and assess the current and future threat landscape, providing the CISO with a realistic overview of risks and threats in the enterprise environment.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures to ensure operating efficiency and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor and report on compliance with security policies, as well as the enforcement of policies within the IT department.
  • Provide technical leadership and support to the Information Security Office technical staff including directing operations, support and maintenance, and administration activities.
  • Collaborate across teams and help project teams comply with security procedures and capabilities.
  • Maintain proper record and documentation of security design.
  • Adhere to all university security policies and standards as they relate to job duties.
  • Maintain skillset on security and vulnerability trends to remediate systems based on threat intelligence information.
  • Professionally handle highly confidential information.
  • Maintain current event knowledge through research and professional development training.
  • Improve automation opportunities for systems related to security, such as Banner.
