Position Summary

This is a temporary, full-time project-based position estimated to last approximately 18 months based on project needs.
Performs intermediate and specialized technical accounting work in the maintenance and preparation of financial records. Maintains accounting schedules and reconciles various general ledger accounts. Researches collects, and analyzes data to prepare various detailed technical financial records and reports. Work requires a technical understanding of accounts and accounting systems, controls, and operations. Demonstrates a commitment and supports a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Position Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions

- Serve in a fiduciary capacity for Prince William Water protecting organizational assets in an accurate, ethical, and timely manner.
- Perform specialized technical and highly detailed work in the preparation, review, and processing of journal entries, financial records, and other related documents.
- Reconcile investment transactions and monthly statements to the general ledger.
- Prepare reconciliations of complex bank accounts to the general ledger.
- Prepare detailed calculations, reconciliations, and analyses to support audit work papers and compliance with contractual obligations.
- Assist with the collection of outstanding receivables for billable work orders.
- Prepare letters and supporting schedules for reimbursement of project costs.
- Serve as the primary backup for the responsibilities of the Accounting Technician I position in their absence.
- Organize and maintain various files.
- Type correspondence, reports, forms, and other financial documents.
- May be deemed essential at any time.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Essential Skills and Experience

Essential Competencies:
- Knowledge of principles, concepts, and practices of accounting and office automation technology and its application in accounting and office operations; record-keeping requirements, rules, and regulations related to assignment; modern office procedures and practices; computer equipment and software applications related to assignment; business mathematics; and English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Ability to produce accurate financial ledgers and related reports; maintain detailed and accurate records; work effectively under deadlines; perform complex and specialized financial technical and clerical work related to the preparation, processing, and maintenance of Prince William Water's accounting records; perform computational tasks and other technical and clerical functions with speed and accuracy; compile and reconcile numerical and financial data; learn and effectively apply the laws, rules and regulations of financial record keeping; prioritize work, coordinate several activities and follow up as required; operate standard office equipment; work effectively in the absence of supervision; and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Minimum Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- At least four years of progressively responsible technical accounting experience.
- Or a combination of education and experience as described above.
Required Licenses/Certifications and Other Special Requirements:
- Must successfully pass a credit check.
