Position Summary:

This is a product development and R&D engineering position within Sig Sauer's Electro-Optics division. Hardware / Firmware engineer will be responsible for circuit board design (schematics and layout) and firmware / source code development (MCU) for new products including recoil sensing, distributed power management, weapon sights, rangefinders, wireless connectivity and general R&D. The position will be 50% hardware design and 50% microcontroller / embedded systems development.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Create PCBA schematics and layouts in Altium. Work with PCBA suppliers on new products and contract manufacturers as necessary.
  • Develop source code for common MCU platforms including TI, Atmel, NXP and other common MCUs including Bluetooth modules such as Nordic systems.
  • Take new product concepts through all aspects of the product development cycle ultimately resulting in a producible and innovative product including development of test equipment and procedures for manufacturing support.
  • Ensure a seamless transition from prototype to a fully developed and manufactured product.
  • Design and evaluate alternative components and/or process changes to improve efficiency, product performance, and reduce cost.
  • Represent the organization as a technical information source.
  • May require up to 20% travel.


Education/Experience & Skills:



  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering / Software Engineering required.
  • Minimum of five years recent related experience in source code development for embedded systems and PCBA schematic and layout design.
  • Must possess excellent customer service, communication (oral and written), and time management skills.
  • Individual must be creative, self-motivated, and an independent thinker.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, Altium and other development tools such as Kiel or IAR.
  • C/C++ embedded firmware experience.
  • Knowledge of Git revision control preferred.
  • Expertise with standard MCU peripherals like I2C, SPI, and UART.
  • Experience with Bluetooth Low Energy, RTOS, and bootloaders preferred.
  • Experience in MEMS sensor drivers and data processing for accelerometers, gyros, magnetometers, environmental sensors preferred.
  • Knowledge of digital signal processing and signal conditioning preferred.
  • Aptitude for detail with the ability to work in a team environment required.
  • Firearm and sports optics experience along with a knowledge of the shooting sports industry strongly preferred.


Working Conditions:



  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
  • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
  • Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
  • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
