The Assistant Director of Operations and Occupancy is a leadership position within the Housing and Residential Life department. This individual will oversee housing assignments, occupancy management, and the overall housing experience for students. The role is integral to ensuring efficient housing operations, supporting diverse student populations, and contributing to student satisfaction and success.

The Assistant Director will work closely with various campus departments to meet the housing needs of the university community, while fostering a positive and inclusive living environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Housing Application & Assignment Management: Lead and manage the housing application and assignment process, including coordinating assignments for special populations (such as first-year students, upperclassmen, graduate students, and students with disabilities), and overseeing ADA accommodations.

  • Occupancy Forecasting & Reporting: Oversee occupancy forecasting, tracking, and reporting; ensure accurate communication regarding housing policies, deadlines, and procedures.

  • Staff Supervision & Development: Supervise and mentor a team of full-time and student staff, including conducting performance evaluations, providing training, and supporting their professional growth.

  • Summer Conference Housing: Coordinate the logistics of summer conference housing operations, including securing housing, staff support, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.

  • Collaboration & Partnerships: Collaborate with campus departments such as Admissions, Student Financial Services, Financial Systems Management, and Facilities to optimize housing operations and ensure a seamless experience for students.

  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development and execution of departmental strategies, initiatives, and long-term goals aimed at enhancing the student housing experience.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Master's degree in student development, Higher Education, or a related field.

Required Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in student housing or a related field, including supervisory experience.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with housing application systems, ADA accommodations, and conference housing operations.

Required Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with students, staff, and campus partners.

  • Ability to manage complex tasks, meet deadlines, and adjust to changing priorities.

  • Strong leadership skills with a focus on staff development, mentorship, and team management.

  • Experience with conflict resolution.

  • Knowledge of housing operations, occupancy forecasting, and the higher education housing landscape.

Additional Information:

  • This position may require occasional evening or weekend work for special events.
