Summary

The Deputy Director of Maintenance is responsible to the Director of Maintenance for 61 Diamond Aircraft and 15 employees in Aircraft Maintenance, Tools and Supply, Maintenance Scheduling, flight line operations and fuels management. Assists with the management of a FAA Pt. 145 Certified Repair Station. Assists with the management of over $1M in associated support equipment, technical manuals, vehicles, and parts re-supply to directly support flight operations.

  • Under Supervision of the Director of Maintenance, ensure Doss Aviation and Maintenance Department policies and procedures are followed by all employees.
  • Assist in coordinating maintenance plans with Director of Maintenance and operations personnel to build and verify accuracy of the daily and weekly flying schedule.
  • Tracks daily maintenance status of the fleet and directs maintenance priorities.
  • Ensures completion of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities.
  • Perform duties of Repair Station Chief Inspector. Ensure/validate productivity and quality goals are met for the maintenance department.
  • Reviews and evaluates quality control reports, identifies trends and takes proper corrective actions.
  • Enforce OSHA, FAA, and CAE safety standards.
  • Coordinate with Flight Operations for provision of aircraft to flying schedule and resolution of pilot-reported discrepancies.
  • Manage training program by Performing/ Coordinating/verifying training of department employees.
  • Recommend and coordinate aircraft impoundment actions.
  • Maintain daily aircraft status sheet and slides, generate recap reports as requested.
  • Manage emergency response, lead crash/recovery efforts, direct aircraft off-base recovery efforts.
  • Manage technical order library by verifying and implementing updates.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of shop procedures as required.
  • Promote the growth and development of team members by providing effective mentoring and coaching, monitoring and evaluating team members' performance.
  • Ensures technicians are qualified to do all assigned tasks.
  • Manage the collective bargaining agreement with the IAMAW.
  • Assists with management and oversight for Hazardous materials storage/disposal, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and used engine oil, batteries and tires recycling programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by managers.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Education: High School or Equivalent
  • Experience: 5-7 years aircraft maintenance
  • License(s)/Certificate(s): FAA A&P with IA certification required
  • Computer Skills: Must be expert with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and database usage
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.

Preferred Skills

  • Should have Certified Repair Station experience. Military aircraft maintenance unit management experienced preferred.
  • In depth knowledge of Diamond aircraft mechanics and inspection cycles.
  • Personnel management experience.
  • Experience/knowledge of CBAs and union issues is preferred.
  • BS Degree in Technical Management, Safety or similar field is preferred.

Security Responsibilities

Must complywith all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures. Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.

  • Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.

Work Environment

  • Work in a regular office environment; communicate via email, telephone, Microsoft Teams.
  • Will at times be exposed to flight line conditions.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Must be able to walk and/or climb stairs and ladder into aircraft cockpit.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, and crawl on top of or under machinery.
  • Must be able to detect odors and/or hear noises, bangs, etc., or other sounds to detect problems in the functioning of aircraft and its surrounding environment.

Salary Range: $81,400 to $122,000

The actual compensation rate is subject to the evaluation of the following factors (but not limited to): the candidate's work experience, qualifications, skills, internal equity, and market.
