About the Job

The Research Integrity and Compliance (RIC) Manager is a managerial position of the Research Integrity and Compliance team responsible for managing the process to ensure that all research activities conducted at the University of Minnesota adhere to the highest ethical standards and comply with all applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies. This role involves managing, developing, and facilitating training for researchers, conducting audits and investigations for research integrity and compliance matters, promoting a culture of research integrity, and managing one staff member.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Research Ethics and Integrity Education Management (40%)

  • Manage the development of educational materials and web pages to promote research ethics and integrity
  • Oversee staff support for the coordination and communication of the University's Research Ethics Week events and website updates
  • Collaborate with Director to increase outreach and engagement in the research community for research integrity and ethics education and training opportunities
  • Lead projects to develop online microlearning and custom learning solutions for the Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research using variety of delivery methods, such as Canvas, PowerPoint, Zoom, etc.
  • Work with the Manager of the Certified Approver Program to manage the needs of the CA Community

Research Compliance and Misconduct Audits and Investigations (30%)

  • Manage sensitive communications, reports, and evidence for research misconduct reviews
  • Manage the gathering of and analysis of the data in research misconduct allegation inquiries and investigations
  • Monitor workflow for research compliance and integrity and work with staff to ensure timely completion of the review of any allegations
  • Compile reports for submission to federal regulatory agencies in cases of research misconduct and non-compliance matters for the Research Integrity Officer (RIO) and Deputy DIO
  • Coordinate meetings for research misconduct panels and interviews with staff

Research Security and Export Controls Support (20%)

  • Provide support for research security and export controls guidance for the Duluth campus per the support and guidance of the Assistant Director of RIC
  • Assist in supporting growing research security needs for the University

Management (10%)

  • Manage one staff member and provide coaching and leadership as their manager
  • Regularly check and respond to emails in the RIC Program email account
  • Support a cross-collaboration with the research security program within RIC to support their needs as directed
  • Other duties as assigned

Flexible Work Profile

The Research and Innovation Office (RIO) and the Research Integrity and Compliance office (RIC) endorses a "work with flexibility" approach that offers a welcoming and flexible work environment where everyone is inspired to do their best. Work location options include working fully remote, partially remote, or entirely in the office and are based on the work of the position. Some on-site work may be necessary for certain positions, even those designated as fully remote.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment, where at least 2 days a week are in-person, on-campus at the East Bank of the Twin Cities Campus, and at least 2-3 times per month on-campus at the UMN-Duluth Campus to support their Research Integrity and Compliance affairs.

The Research Integrity Compliance office management retains the right to modify flexible work arrangement agreements on a temporary or permanent basis for any reason at any time.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree with at least six years of related experience in research compliance, research integrity, clinical research, laboratory research, or regulatory affairs

Preferred Qualifications

  • MA/MS/MPH degree or higher in a relevant field, such as the STEM disciplines, law, ethics, and/or education
  • Prior experience in research compliance field, including work with the IRB, IACUC, and/ or IBC
  • Prior experience in research integrity and misconduct reviews
  • Experience managing 1-3 staff

The RIC Program is responsible system-wide for responsible conduct of research, research misconduct, U.S. export controls and economic sanctions, research security, the certified approver program, and research policy management. Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $86,528.00-$110,011.20; depending on education/qualifications/experience
