Work Hours: This position requires working a rotating shift schedule, including days, nights, weekends and holidays, as needed to support plant operations. Individuals must be available to work overtime.

Job Summary

The Water Treatment Operator ensures the safe, reliable, compliant and economical generation of electricity through inspection, monitoring, operation and maintenance of combined cycle power plant equipment, with a focus on water supply and treatment related apparatus, during routine, abnormal or emergency conditions. This position performs equipment surveillance through the completion of routine operator rounds.

Job Responsibilities
  • Support the Control Room Operator in the operation, maintenance, inspection and monitoring of combined cycle power plant equipment, including combustion turbine-generators, heat recovery steam generators, steam turbine-generator, auxiliary boiler, control systems, cooling tower, water treatment facilities, environmental control and balance-of-plant equipment, in accordance with company policy, approved procedures and applicable local, state and federal regulations.
  • Operate and maintain water supply and treatment facilities as needed to meet the plant's requirements.
  • Ensure the reliable operation of sanitary water, service water and fire water equipment, including storage tanks, delivery systems, pump house machinery and related devices. Ensure the adequacy of the water supply to plant buildings and grounds, service water and fire protection systems.
  • Ensure the reliable operation of water pre-treatment equipment, including clarifiers, soda ash and lime softening, storage and delivery systems, dewatering sludge thickener, sludge press and make-up water storage pond.
  • Ensure the reliable operation of process water treatment equipment, including multimedia filters, reverse osmosis trains, decarbonators, mixed bed demineralizers, demineralized water storage tanks, delivery systems and related devices.
  • Ensure the reliable operation of wastewater collection and treatment equipment, including the cooling tower basin, sumps, reverse osmosis reject and filter backwash systems, building drains, oil/water separator and other effluent control devices.
  • Monitor plant water chemistry/quality parameters by performing laboratory tests at various stages in the treatment process including tests for total dissolved solids, conductivity, alkalinity, hardness, pH value, turbidity, silt density index, silica, iron, manganese and aluminum content, soluble salts, free chlorine and dissolved oxygen content, total organic carbon and other tests as necessary to maintain desired water quality.
  • Maintain operating logs and plant records as assigned.
  • Perform preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Support the administration of, and ensure compliance with, plant lock out / tag out (LOTO), hot work and confined space entry procedures.
  • Operate heavy equipment as required, including all-terrain and standard forklifts, man lift, scissors lift, tractor, side-by-side ATV, chopper/mower, pickup/plow truck and overhead lifting devices.
  • Maintain plant equipment, buildings and grounds in a safe, functional, clean and orderly condition. Perform general housekeeping, cleaning, lawn care and snow removal tasks as assigned.
  • Perform other duties and administrative tasks as assigned.
Minimum Education Required
High School Diploma, HSED, or GED
Minimum Experience Required
  • 2 years of plant operations experience in a water treatment, power generation or heavy industrial environment.
  • Valid Drivers License

Minimum Posting Range: $33.97

Maximum Posting Range: $43.98

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs. At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
