CLA is seeking a Principal for our Client accounting and Advisory Services (CAAS) practice. Our CAAS team helps our clients transform their business with a collaborative approach that allows them to seamlessly mitigate risk, overcome challenges, meet deadlines, and identify personnel to help them with their workforce needs. This leader will anchor the state & local government team in providing services to New York governments and be the face of CLA's state & local government practice in the community, driving business development and building an infrastructure of talent to support that growth. Responsibilities:
- Works with clients to set financial policy and is an active participant in, and driver of, the overall strategy.
- Leads financial administration, planning, and budgeting.
- Frequently partners with client's leadership on operational and strategic issues as they arise, providing recommendations based on financial analysis of projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.
- Oversees longer-term budget planning and cost management. Monitors progress of budgets and presents operational metrics and KPI's.
- Ensures staff maintains financial record systems in accordance with appropriate principles and monitors the use of funds.
- Accountable for identifying and implementing best practices related to the service(s) provided to add value to the client.
- Develops full knowledge of GAAP and deep understanding of financial and operational aspects of their specific industry.
- Ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple client engagements. Builds strong client relationships and becomes a key member of client management team.
- Maintains knowledge of client's organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
Business Development Responsibilities:
- Ability to develop key external business network and becomes service and industry thought leader.
- Manage internal and external referrals through CRM.
- Interaction and coordination with internal client relationship leaders in the firm.
- Proposal writing and presentations.
Job Requirements:
- BA/BS degree in accounting, finance or related field required.
- Current CPA licensure required
- 8+ years of public accounting experience with emphasis in financial statement preparation, audits, reviews, and compilations.
- Experience leading teams of high performing people and managing governmental audits and Single audits strongly preferred
- This position requires frequent local travel to/from client sites and may require occasional non-local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings and/or other business-related purposes.
