JOB SUMMARY
This position works in a hospital environment with the primary responsibility of maintaining and repairing ice machines, DX HVAC systems, and other complex refrigeration systems such as -80, -20, and under counter specialty refrigerators. Overhauls and services freon air-conditioning and refrigeration units; repairing, replacing, or adjusting work or broken parts on condensers, compressors, water and vacuum pumps.
Works under minimal supervision to provide skilled work of journeyman level involved in installation, repair, and maintenance of air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment used in buildings throughout university.
Work Location: Dallas Campus; assist other UTSW locations as needed.
Shift Requirement: Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

High School Diploma or vocational school
- Experience
3 years skilled or journeyman level experience as Refrigeration or air-conditioning mechanic
- Licenses and Certifications
(CFC) CHLOROFLUOROCARBNS TECHN CERT by the State of Texas Upon Hire
Preferred
- Experience
Repair knowledge of ice machine or walking cooler/Freezers/Roof top units is preferred
- Licenses and Certifications
ARC, TDLR license or NATE Certification is a plus Upon Hire

JOB DUTIES
- Overhauls and services freon air-conditioning and refrigeration units; repairing, replacing, or adjusting worn or broken parts on condensers, compressors, water and vacuum pumps.
- Tests equipment for refrigerant leaks, adding freon to refrigeration units as needed and checks gauges for proper operation.
- Repairs or adjusts valves, piping connections, fittings, and couplings.
- Removes or installs motors, thermostats, and humidistats, and adjusts expansion valves. Makes inspections for preventive maintenance.
- May provide working supervision to Maintenance Workers and/or Crafts Trade Trainees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
