Role Summary:

We're seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead our Mobile Development organization based in New York. This senior leadership role will spearhead our mobile-first initiatives, overseeing the development and evolution of Reuters' mobile applications while leading a distributed engineering team.

About The Role
As aDirector of Software Engineering, you will:

Mobile Technology Leadership:

  • Drive the technical vision and roadmap for Reuters' mobile applications
  • Lead architecture decisions for cross-platform mobile development (React Native)
  • Establish mobile development standards, best practices, and quality metrics
  • Oversee app store deployment strategies and app lifecycle management
  • Guide integration of new mobile technologies and features
  • Optimize app performance, stability, and user experience

Engineering Leadership:

  • Lead and mentor distributed mobile engineering teams
  • Drive mobile DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
  • Oversee technical documentation and mobile architecture blueprints
  • Validate proof of concepts for new mobile features
  • Ensure consistent quality across iOS and Android platforms
  • Collaborate with UX/UI teams on mobile experience optimization

Strategic Planning & Execution:

  • Align mobile roadmap with business objectives
  • Manage resource allocation and risk mitigation
  • Optimize mobile infrastructure costs
  • Drive innovation in mobile content delivery
  • Coordinate with backend teams for API development
  • Oversee mobile analytics and performance monitoring

Security & Compliance:

  • Partner with Security and Compliance teams to ensure mobile applications meet Reuters' security standards and regulatory requirements
  • Oversee implementation of privacy-by-design principles and accessibility standards
  • Establish and maintain vulnerability management processes with appropriate SLAs
  • Ensure mobile development practices align with data protection regulations across global markets

About You
To be our Director of Software Engineering, you will likely have:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience
  • 5+ years of mobile development leadership
  • Strong background in:
  • React Native development
  • Native iOS/Android development
  • Mobile architecture patterns
  • Cloud services integration
  • Agile methodologies

Technical Expertise:

  • Deep knowledge of mobile development ecosystems
  • Experience with:
  • React Native and associated tooling
  • Native development (Swift/Kotlin)
  • Mobile CI/CD pipelines
  • App store deployment processes
  • Mobile testing frameworks
  • Performance optimization
  • Analytics integration
  • Push notifications
  • Content delivery networks

Security & Compliance Knowledge:

  • Experience implementing security best practices in mobile applications
  • Understanding of mobile privacy requirements and accessibility standards
  • Familiarity with common security vulnerabilities and remediation approaches
  • Knowledge of global data protection regulations as they apply to mobile applications

  • Experience with news/media applications

  • Understanding of accessibility guidelines (WCAG) and their implementation in mobile applications

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations. Eligible office location(s) for this role include one or more of the following: New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and/or Irvine, CA; McLean, VA; Washington, DC. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $177,380 - $329,420. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
