A research assistant position is available with a flexible start date before June 2025 within the laboratory of Dr. Peter Nigrovic, Chief of the Division of Immunology at Boston Children's Hospital. The individual will join a team studying adaptive and innate immune mechanisms of autoimmune diseases. We apply cutting-edge approaches in transcriptomics, immunology, molecular biology, and gene editing and microscopy on human patient samples and mouse models of autoimmune diseases. The research assistant will conduct studies in tissue culture, microscopy, immunology and molecular biology techniques, animal husbandry and surgical procedures. The candidate may interact with patients and will participate actively in lab meetings, discussions and presentations. A 2-year commitment is preferred. Training will be provided in all skills, rendering the position suitable for a self-motivated individual considering medical or graduate school.
This Research Assistant I will be responsible for:
  • Tissue culture.
  • Cellular and molecular immunology assays including but not limited to qPCR, flow cytometry, confocal and intra-vital 2-photon microscopy, western blot, etc.
  • Animal husbandry and colony maintenance.
  • Lab maintenance, i.e. ordering supplies, general upkeep, etc.
  • Consenting and collecting patient samples.
  • Processing, organizing and cryopreserving patient samples.

In order to qualify, you must have:

  • A BA/BS degree in Biology/Molecular Biology/Immunology or related field, or with comparable background.
  • Flexible working hours during weekdays AND weekends as needed.
  • Past research experience in tissue culture, cellular and molecular immunology and/or mouse work preferred but not required.
  • Excellent communication, organization, time management, and record-keeping a must.
