You will be part of McKinsey's Client Service Risk (CSR) function, whose mission is to enable McKinsey's client impact and innovation while managing risks to the Firm, our clients, and our people. CSR is a globally integrated team with colleagues from diverse professional backgrounds including communications, consulting, government, and law. CSR advises Firm leadership on risks across the lifecycle of client engagements, including client selection, management of work scope, and changes in operational circumstances. This role reports to the Global Head of Life Sciences Risk and will preferably be based in one of our United States offices.
Your impact within our firm
As a Strategy & Operations Specialist for Life Sciences, you will be integral in shaping and running complex, key processes, delivering results along performance management, strategy, reporting and awareness.
You will provide input into strategy, actively contribute to selected initiatives (e.g., priority outcomes), and support the performance management of the team and work to regulate team workload
You will drive operational improvement within the Life Sciences risk practice, including improving the intake and case handling processes and data management.
You will contribute to shaping global Life Sciences efforts on process redesign/simplification, and share/apply emerging best practices
You will support colleagues delivering the day-to-day work within intake, triage, and data management
You will collaborate with leadership on development and execution of reporting, knowledge and awareness pipeline for the practice to facilitate good risk behaviors and honest conversations
You will serve as the key point of contact for other risk teams and Firm functions who are involved in, or have interdependencies with your/your team's processes, areas of responsibility, etc.
Your qualifications and skills
  • 4+ years professional experience, in legal, professional services, risk, and/or comms
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and integrity, including affinity and abiding interest and experience in risk and governance issues
  • Excellent problem-solving and issue-spotting capabilities
  • Advanced project management skills, including strong organization, responsiveness, and ability to prioritize
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills: ability to work across all levels of seniority, cultivating trust-based, peer-counselor relationships
  • Outstanding English written and oral communication, including clear, concise writing and ability to create compelling, well-story lined documents in PPT and word with minimal oversight
  • Experience with quantitative analysis in Excel (e.g., comfortable working with pivot tables); prior experience with or willingness to learn SQL will be an advantage
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to navigate a complex and nuanced professional services/partnership environment

For new joiners for this role in Canada and/or the United States, including all office locations where the job may be performed, a reasonable estimated range is $112,900 - $176,800 in USD and $125,600 - $157,000 in CAD - to help you understand what you can expect. This reflects our best estimate of the lowest to highest salary for this role at the time of this posting, ensuring you have a clear picture right from the start, though it's important to remember that actual salaries may vary. Factors like your office location, your unique blend of experience and skills, start date and our current organizational needs all play a part in determining the final figure. Certain roles are also eligible for bonuses, subject to McKinsey's discretion and based on factors such as individual and/or organizational performance.
