Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) - Gynecologic Oncology

Position Description:

The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, General OBGYN is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant that will provide specialty medical care within defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/Froedtert Health policies and procedures. Multiple sites: FMLH Cancer Center, West Bend, Mequon.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as part of a multidisciplinary health care team, providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for the patients of the outpatient services as a member of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, division of Gynecologic Oncology.

The APP will have a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and ensure an environment of safe quality care.

The Ideal Candidate will be a certified and licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with women's health experience wanting to be part of a thriving and very collaborative academic practice at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). Areas of responsibility will include, but not be limited to providing direct patient care in an outpatient setting.

Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
• Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
• Develops pharmaceutical and non- pharmaceutical treatment plans.
• Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
• Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
• Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
• Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
• Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
• Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.

Department Specific Responsibilities

• Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring Gynecologic Oncology intervention in an outpatient environment as a member of the Oncology ambulatory service.
• Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders.
• Orders, performs, and interprets screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.
• Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the Gynecologic Oncology services.
• Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
• Attend required training and meet key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.
• Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.
• Acquires information on the most current developments and trends in the Physician Assistant field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.
• Participates in ongoing clinical research projects related to the field of Gynecologic Oncology.
• Assist surgeon in operating room consistent with training and experience following policies, procedures and protocol, if necessary.
• Write pre-operation and post-operation orders under the direction of a physician, if necessary.
• Inpatient responsibilities as assigned.

Preferred Schedule: 7:30am-5:30pm. Scheduling flexibility required to provide for an appropriate level of patient care coverage. May require evening or weekend hours in the future based on business needs.

Advanced Practice Nurse:

• Master's Degree or higher in Nursing
• Wisconsin Licensure as RN; Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing and licensed Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP).
• 0 years of experience required. Women's Health and/or Oncology experience preferred

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies.
• 0 years of experience required. Women's Health and/or Oncology experience preferred
• Physician Assistant licensed by State of Wisconsin; Certification by NCCPA.
