Job Summary: The LVN-Wound Care functions in a fast-paced ambulatory wound care clinic under the Loma Linda University Medical Center license which is Magnet Recognized large tertiary academic medical center with multiple specialty program accreditations and designations. Provides direct and indirect age-specific and developmentally appropriate patient care to patients with simple to complex acute and chronic wounds, ostomy and continence issues. Reviews appointment schedules frequently and sets up exam rooms according to treatment plan, resets priorities to maximize patient flow. Prepares patient for appointment, positions patient in a comfortable position for good visualization of wound removes dressing observing condition of wound and surrounding tissue. Notifies NP/MD when patient is ready. Participates with treatments and dressing changes as requested. Under the direction of RN/NP/MD provides patient education and encourages patient to be actively involved in their care. Works with clinic team members and insurance providers to ensure patient gets the required supplies/devices/equipment for home use, communicates with patient on delivery times. Obtains insurance authorization for scheduled referrals, diagnostic tests and procedures as ordered. Updates patient on the date, time, location for tests or procedures that are scheduled. Reviews medical record to ensure charges are captured and tests, procedures are attached to the correct hospital account record (HAR). Assists with front and back-office duties as requested. Assists with coordinating new patient referral activities and obtains necessary patient information from referring physician. Obtains insurance authorization for treatment prior to initial clinic visit. Participate in quality and performance improvement activities. Utilizes effective interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service and safe patient care. Follows service excellence best practice concepts in all communication to improve the patient, and family experience. Performs other duties as needed. Education and Experience: Graduate of a school of Vocational Nursing. Minimum of one year experience as LVN required. Experience in a clinic or acute care setting caring for adult and surgical patients preferred. Experience in wound care preferred. Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of the California LVN scope of practice required. Demonstrates competencies in clinical nursing activities as outlined by the LVN board. Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in areas of wound healing, and ostomy care. Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation required. Able to: read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch. Licensures and Certifications: Active California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license required. Basic life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required.
