Position Highlights |
The Harris Lab at The University of Arizona, College of Medicine - Tucson is looking for a highly motivated individual to work as a full-time Laboratory Research Technician III. The Laboratory Research Technician III will support molecular, cellular, and whole animal research investigating cardiac and skeletal muscle function and structure. The incumbent will collect and interpret data, as well as contribute to laboratory organization, such as chemical and supply inventories and mouse colonies. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Follow and develop laboratory protocols to contribute to the laboratory's investigation of striated muscle function and structure. Isolate and purify contractile proteins using a variety of chromatography methods. Determine mouse genotypes by PCR. Run enzyme assays, western blots, plasmid purifications, cloning, and other molecular biology techniques.
- Supervise and train undergraduate students to follow some or all of the above techniques.
- Assist with the management of multiple transgenic and CRISPR
gene-edited mouse lines. Perform breeding, weaning, and other animal husbandry activities. Determine mouse genotypes by PCR. Review student PCR results. Prepare for and participate in animal tissue harvest. Maintain detailed animal databases. Contribute to IACUC protocol amendments and reviews. - Collect data and write up research results. Assist in the preparation of manuscripts for publication and grant proposals. Assist the PI and other researchers in the lab on the development of protocols and interpretation of results as needed.
- Assist other lab members with lab management tasks, such as maintaining chemical and lab supply inventories, safety standards, and SOPs.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong organizational skills, such as record keeping
and data management.

Minimum Qualifications |
- High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree in biology, physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field.
- Experience with mouse and/or rat husbandry.
- Experience with mentoring and/or training undergraduate students.
- Experience with molecular biology work such as PCR, plasmid and protein purification, immunoblot and/or immunohistochemistry.
