Job title: Press Assistant

Reports to (Title): Manufacturing Manager

1. Job Overview

Press Assistant will assist the press operator in the set up and running of press to produce quality production in a safe and timely manner for lamination and finishing departments. Their main focuses will be the safety of themselves and their co-workers and helping to produce quality product in a timely manner. They will also learn the operation of press and learn and apply all safety, quality and production procedures. They will work with co-workers in and out of their department to improve safety, quality and production at the facility.

3. Principal Accountabilities

  • To be aware of, adhere to and help to improve all safety standards and procedures.
  • To be aware of, adhere to and help to improve all quality standards and procedures.
  • To be aware of, adhere to and help to improve all production standards and procedures.
  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills
  • Learn and apply understanding of current operating standards and practices. Willingly learns and applies new standards and practices
  • Willing to learn and apply new skills
  • Able to understand and make accurate measurements. Has a basic, high school-level math skill. Able to read, comprehend and follow verbal or written instructions in English
  • Has basic computer skills
  • Understands and completes all paperwork related to operations
  • Labels and palletizes finished rolls
  • Will acquire and stock all necessary operating supplies and materials for the Finishing equipment
  • Will assist Press Operator with set ups, paperwork and operation of equipment
  • Will train under Finishing operator, Team Lead and Supervisor to learn safe, efficient operation of Finishing equipment and safety, quality and operation processes
  • Will learn and apply knowledge of Quality standards and procedures. Will learn to identify quality defects
  • Will learn and apply knowledge of Work Order specifications
  • Assists with the take down and set up of jobs
  • Cleans plates and cylinders, washes up decks, and sumps, cleaning of anilox rollers
  • Refills and maintains ink supply, and testing ink viscosity
  • Responsible for all press material at machine, film, inks, and plates
  • Completes tasks and helps produce quality product in a timely manner
  • Participates in Continuous Improvement initiatives
  • Works with co-workers and management in a positive and constructive manner

6. Qualifications/Requirements

6.1 Formal Qualifications and Experience

Knowledge and Experience

  • 1 year working in a manufacturing environment preferred

Education and Certifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

6.2 Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Behaviours

Job Specific skills and abilities

  • Basic computer skills
  • Must be able to flex hours in order to support multi-shift operation
  • Ability to stay on task and follow instruction
  • Basic measurement, math, communication, reading and writing skills
  • Ability to understand and apply all Amcor safety, quality and production standards
  • Ability to stand, walk, and lift continuously for up to 12 hours
  • Ability to repeatedly lift up to 40 lbs without assistance
  • Ability and willingness to drive forklift
  • Must prioritize safety, above all else

Compensation:
* The starting rate of pay for this position is $20.20 an hour; however, starting pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
